Monday Racing Tips: Chaturanga is the one to beat at Hamilton

There’s plenty happening on Monday as there are six meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland. Flat racing takes centre stage but there are also a couple of scheduled National Hunt fixtures on the schedule.
Roscommon kicks us off and is swiftly followed by Hamilton, Newton Abbot, Down Royal, and Windsor, while Wolverhampton provides the evening action. We have three strong fancies across the day and these include one for Archie Watson who could make the long journey up to Hamilton worthwhile.
Monday Racing Tips
15.35 Hamilton - Chaturanga @ 7/2
It’s a 746-mile round trip from Lambourn to Hamilton and Archie Watson is set to send CHATURANGA up to Scotland on Monday. This horse is the only three-year-old in the field and is therefore the only one to receive a pretty handy 5lb allowance.
The son of Invincible Army is already a prolific winner, despite having had only nine career starts, and a record of four wins and a second means he’s an admirably consistent sort.
He has managed to win two handicaps over 1m2f by narrow margins but that could be more to do with the trip stretching his stamina, rather than implying that the handicapper is close to having him in their grasp.
Trying a new trip of 1m1f here, it could suit nicely at this stiff track, especially as conditions are likely to be a bit more testing than what he’s been used to.
Watson’s gelding just held on when scoring at Ayr when last seen in July and a 4lb rise is unlikely to prove too problematic. He’s lightly raced enough to suggest further improvement could be on the cards and he should still be ahead of the handicapper.
17.05 Windsor - Run Of Luck @ 8/1
There are several last-time-out winners who warrant respect in this very competitive albeit low-grade handicap. The winner looks likely to come from this contingent and Ed de Giles’ RUN OF LUCK gets the nod from us.
His first three starts were very underwhelming but he has completely turned a corner since switching to handicaps. Proven in testing conditions, he was an excellent second on his handicap debut at Ffos Las where the going was heavy.
It’s noted that heavy ground can exaggerate distances at Ffos Las but Run Of Luck didn’t let the winner get too far away from him and was well clear of the third.
The son of El Kabeir went one better at Bath next time and he kept on nicely to score by three-quarters of a length despite getting a little outpaced when they quickened. That suggests this step up in trip is highly likely to suit and another big run is anticipated.
18.00 Wolverhampton - Cavalry Call @ 5/2
This is a fascinating race for the grade and the three-year-olds could have the edge over their older rivals. CAVALRY CALL is perhaps the most interesting of the lot and he is fancied to come out on top.
It certainly took a while for the penny to drop but it finally did when he was narrowly denied by a progressive horse at Lingfield on his penultimate start. Plenty went wrong in the race too as he was a little too keen in the early stages and the winner carried him right on the run-in.
That effort was a clear sign that he was ready to start winning races and he duly obliged at Yarmouth on his next start. Simon & Ed Crisford’s gelding made virtually all of the running and finished his race off powerfully to score by a comfortable margin of two lengths.
