Horse Racing Tips: Sole could be the solution at Plumpton

There’s a little bit of something for everyone on Monday, with four meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.
Punchestown kicks us off with an eight-race card and is swiftly followed by Plumpton and Ayr, while Wolverhampton’s all-weather fixture provides the evening entertainment.
The feature race of the day is the £60,000 BetGoodwin Sussex Stayers Handicap Hurdle and one of our three strongest fancies of the day is a Venetia Williams-trained runner who could be the one to beat.
Horse Racing Tips - Monday, February 24
14:25 Ayr - Don Brocco @ 2/1
Look out for DON BROCCO at Ayr as Gary Rutherford’s nine-year-old returned to winning ways at Carlisle last time out. Surely his confidence will be up off the back of that success and he could be the one to side with once again.
Dominating the race from start to finish, he was always either clearly in the lead or disputing it throughout. Sean Quinlan said go after the second-last and the horse was a willing partner, going on to score by eight-and-a-half lengths.
The handicapper responded with an 8lb rise and he was technically 2lb out of the handicap at Carlisle. Whilst that isn’t particularly generous, the extra weight perhaps wouldn’t have stopped him the last day.
If he can dominate from the front once again, a follow up victory could be on the cards. The grey gelding was victorious on his only previous start at Ayr, which came off a mark of 96 over hurdles back in 2022, and that’s certainly a positive omen.

15:15 Plumpton - Sole Solution @ 11/4
SOLE SOLUTION could be the one to side with in this valuable handicap hurdle. Venetia Williams’ gelding made an excellent start to his career, winning a couple of bumpers at Bangor and Ffos Las in good style.
We then didn’t see him for 678 days and he was entitled to need the run when sixth on his hurdling debut in November. Second behind subsequent Grade 2 winner Sixmilebridge next time, that was an improved display and the step up in trip clearly helped.
The form of his Hereford novice hurdle win doesn’t look particularly strong, but he boosted it himself by winning a competitive novice handicap at Sandown earlier this month. He saw the trip out very well on heavy ground and the front two had it between themselves.
Trying 3m1f for the first time, his most recent effort suggests it will suit and there’s plenty of three-mile form in his pedigree. We could witness a successful hat-trick bid here, as there’s surely more to come from this unexposed sort.

17:30 Wolverhampton - Wedgewood @ 18/1
WEDGEWOOD is a better horse on the all-weather, a fact that hasn’t escaped the attention of the handicapper.
Her official rating is 8lb higher on the all-weather and her last success in this sphere came at Lingfield back in May.
An impressive winner on the day, she was hit with a 6lb rise and wasn’t disgraced off this mark over course and distance last time out. That was her first start for 141 days and you would imagine she’s entitled to improve for that.
She runs her race more often than not on artificial surfaces and that consistency could be rewarded with victory this time around.
