Exeter races scaled

There is a mixture of jump and Flat racing in the UK on Monday, with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

Among our horse racing tips for Monday is a young chaser representing Joe Tizzard in the opening Beginners’ Chase from Exeter.

Horse Racing Tips - Monday, November 18

  • 13:00 Exeter - Gyenyame @ 4/7
  • 13:30 Exeter - Florencethemachine @ 4/7
  • 15:30 Exeter - Jack Sprat @ 9/4

13:00 Exeter - Gyenyame @ 4/7

Some persistent light rain is due to hit the Exeter area overnight on Sunday and throughout Monday, so the current good, good to firm in places going description is likely to change.

Hopefully, that rain will ensure that all three runners turn up for the Class 3 2m3f Beginners’ Chase that opens up Exeter’s Monday card.

In truth, Universal Secret faces a tough task on these unfavourable terms, so this should develop into a match dust-up between GYENYAME and Forever William, representing Joe Tizzard and Dan Skelton respectively.

Delving into the statistics for such races would highlight that Dan Skelton’s horses are more likely to win a November Beginners’ Chase at Exeter than those of Joe Tizzard, but Gyenyame still makes the most appeal based on other important factors, and Tizzard went 8-25 (32 per cent) with his runners in the past 14 days, including through JPR One, who won Exeter’s biggest race of the year, the Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup Handicap Chase, 10 days before this contest.

The selection won a 2m4f maiden hurdle on good to soft ground at right-handed Wincanton in March 2023 and ran second in a Class 3 Cheltenham handicap hurdle over a slightly longer trip on soft ground in November last year.

He achieved a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 124 at Cheltenham when competing off a mark of 120, and his mark has dropped 2lb to 116 from 118 despite his mildly encouraging sixth of 14 on his chasing debut over this trip on good to soft ground at Chepstow last month.

The six-year-old Nathaniel gelding reached sixth despite a couple of significant mistakes. Forever William on the other hand has no chasing experience.

Should Gyenyame improve for that initial experience then the 3lb difference on the book on these terms will vanish, and Forever William could then prove up against it.

13:30 Exeter - Florencethemachine @ 4/7

FLORENCETHEMACHINE is considered capable of seeing off her two opponents in the Class 3 3m Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, representing Paul Nicholls with Freddie Gingell in the saddle.

Gingell won the Paddy Power Gold Cup Premier Handicap Chase on board Nicholls’ perceived second-string Il Ridoto on Saturday. Nicholls is 83-326 (25 per cent) with his runners over fences at Exeter.

All three runners ran in points but the selection managed to win one in Ireland, and all three runners have had one run over regulation fences, with Florencethemachine and Another Folly showing much more promise than Face d’Music.

Florencethemachine is effective on easier ground and nearly fell at the sixth when doing well to reach third of five over this course and distance on good ground last month.

Another Folly is respected, stepping up in trip and in receipt of weight, but the selection should prove hard to beat, if building on that course-and-distance third as seems likely.

15:30 Exeter - Jack Sprat @ 9/4

Finally, JACK SPRAT can leave his reappearance of fifth of nine on his chasing debut at Wetherby last month well behind when contesting Exeter’s Class 4 3m Handicap Chase, representing the noteworthy trainer and jockey combination of Jamie Snowden and Gavin Sheehan.

Snowden went 4-14 (29 per cent) in the past 14 days.

Jack Sprat won a stronger handicap hurdle at right-handed Huntingdon in March from a 3lb lower rating. He was noted rallying into fifth at Wetherby the last day, and the step back up in trip, switched to right-handed Exeter, are factors likely to bring about significant improvement.
