There's plenty of racing action across Britain and Ireland on Monday with four meetings set to take place.

In the UK it is jumps fare from Fontwell and Southwell alongside the evening all-weather meeting at Newcastle, while in Ireland a brand new season of turf racing on the Flat begins at the Curragh.

We've got three fancies for Monday's action, including Lan Cinnte for Jessica Harrington in the Irish Lincolnshire.

Monday Racing Tips - Monday, March 18

  • 14:45 Fontwell – Hermes Du Gouet @ 3/1
  • 16:10 Curragh – Lan Cinnte @ 9/1
  • 20:30 Newcastle – Zumaaty @ 9/4

14:45 Fontwell – Hermes Du Gouet @ 3/1

Venetia Williams couldn't muster a winner at the Cheltenham Festival last week but there were some notable efforts all the same, with Djelo placed in the Turners and L'homme Presse an honourable fourth in the Gold Cup.

Deep ground continues to be a source of optimism for the Williams horses doing well and that is going to be the case this afternoon at Fontwell.

On paper HERMES DU GOUET has plenty of improvement to find if he's to score a first chasing success but there are reasons to see a good run incoming.

The point/hurdles winner has jumped soundly in runs at Exeter and Chepstow this season since commencing his chasing career, but he's been tapped for toe in both instances.

He has dropped 7lb from an opening mark of 118 and he goes up markedly in trip for this Southwell appearance. He might be set to improve his lot.

16:10 Curragh – Lan Cinnte @ 9/1

It's hard to believe coming the day after St Patrick's Day but the turf season is ready to commence, with the Irish Lincolnshire taking place at the Curragh on Monday afternoon as a new term gets underway at Headquarters.

With the race coming slightly earlier than normal and the recent rainfall being plentiful, conditions will take some getting and the forecast is for heavy ground.

That ought to suit LAN CINNTE for the Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley team.

The Saxon Warrior filly won twice last season, at Limerick (1m, soft) in maiden company and then at the Galway Festival over the extended mile on yielding ground.

She had to be gutsy at Ballybrit in fending off Malbay Madness, the runner-up who would score four days later at the same meeting for Emmet Mullins when well backed to do so.

Lan Cinnte is just 2lb higher in the ratings now and the ability to handle conditions could be key, as she looks to become the fourth successive four-year-old winner of the Irish Lincolnshire.

20:30 Newcastle – Zumaaty @ 9/4

The nightcap at Newcastle is a one-mile handicap contest in which ZUMAATY is fancied to build on a pleasing comeback run at Wolverhampton last Monday.

The gelding is a previous winner on the Tapeta at Dunstall Park and was having his first start since October when beaten half a length into second spot by in-form Moon Over The Sea, who was notching a second win in three starts.

Iain Jardine now calls on 7lb claimer Ethan Jones, who has three winners from his 11 rides, and that is a big help to Zumaaty, who is racing off bottom-weight.
