Horse Racing Tips: Sovereign can put them under his spell at Windsor

We have a big week ahead of us, with York’s Ebor Festival kicking off on Wednesday, but there are four meetings to pique our interest on Monday before that. Catterick’s Flat fixture gets us underway and National Hunt racing returns to Stratford, while the evening entertainment is provided by Windsor and Ayr.
We’ve selected our three strongest fancies across the day and they include a Kevin Philippart de Foy runner who was last seen at Royal Ascot and has been presented with an excellent opportunity in a much lower grade.

17:25 Windsor - Sovereign Spell @ 13/8
This looks like a very winnable novice event and Kevin Philippart de Foy runs two for Amo Racing. David Egan has chosen SOVEREIGN SPELL and one look at the form book will tell you why.
The son of Invincible Spirit made his debut in a Class 2 novice at Newmarket in May and a reproduction of that form would be more than enough here. There were only six runners that day but three subsequent winners have come out of the race and he was beaten only a neck.
Connections went big next time and he ran in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. He wasn’t disgraced in finishing 13th and was less than seven lengths behind the winner, who has since placed in Group company.
Obviously this is a much easier task and it’ll be a bit of a surprise if the two-year-old fails to do the job this time.

17:45 Ayr - Sapphire Princess @ 11/8
Ollie Sangster has one winner from four runners at Ayr during his career and he’ll be looking to add to that tally with SAPPHIRE PRINCESS. She has had three starts so far, finishing second or third in all of them, and this is an excellent opportunity to get off the mark.
Beginning her career with Ger Lyons, she finished second at Cork on her debut and the form of that race has worked out very well. No fewer than five of the runners have come out and won since and there was plenty to like about Sapphire Princess’s performance.
The daughter of Kingman was perhaps a little unlucky to bump into a couple of very impressive winners in two subsequent starts over this trip. It’s noted that Sangster’s filly is ex-Juddmonte and as such, she has a very useful pedigree.
This is her stable debut and it looks to be her softest target to date and while her debut performance suggests 7f or further will be more suitable in the future, she has shown enough over 6f to indicate that winning a race of this stature shouldn’t be beyond her.

18:30 Windsor - Earl Of Rochester @ 4/5
EARL OF ROCHESTER finished a close up third in the Wood Ditton Stakes on his debut in April 2024 and the two horses ahead of him are very smart indeed. Lockinge winner Lead Artist was second that day and the winner scored in Group 3 company at Meydan this winter.
He looked badly in need of the run when fourth on his seasonal reappearance at Newcastle but put in a much better display when second by a head at Kempton earlier this month. The front two were well clear of the rest and it’s only a matter of time before he finally gets off the mark.
