Musselburgh scaled

Flat racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Monday, with six meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Hereford, before they race at Roscommon, Windsor, Musselburgh, Kempton Park and Wolverhampton. Amongst our Monday fancies is one for trainer Iain Jardine who has a brilliant record at this October meeting in recent years and he can strike in one of the 5f handicaps.

Horse Racing Tips

  • 14:05 Roscommon - Von Krolock @ 18/1
  • 14:50 Musselburgh - Wee Fat Mac @ 13/2
  • 16:55 Musselburgh - Mrs Bagerran @ 8/1

14:05 Roscommon - Von Krolock @ 18/1

We head to Ireland for the first selection of the day and, although his strike-rate leaves much to be desired, VAN KROLOCK has what it takes to get seriously involved in the finish in the 7½f handicap.

Trained by Timothy Doyle, the son of Morpheus wasn't seen to best effect over 6f at the Curragh latest when finishing 14th of the 17 runners in first-time cheekpieces, but there's reason to give him another chance.

He's a better horse over 7f and his sole career victory came at Dundalk over this sort of trip last October so improvement can be expected now. Top apprentice Wayne Hassett maintains the partnership and a big run is expected.

14:50 Musselburgh - Wee Fat Mac @ 13/2

WEE FAT MAC has gone 15 runs without a win and is starting to become frustrating, but he seldom runs a bad race and will be on the premises once again in the 5f handicap for trainer Iain Jardine, with Andrew Mullen booked for the ride.

That trainer and rider combination have struck up a brilliant partnership at this venue and at this very meeting in recent years and this son of Swiss Spirit was a big eyecatcher at Hamilton last month when rattling home into second off a mark of 62.

He finished a length off the winner, Stash The Cash, and although he's gone up 2lb for that effort, he's more than capable off his current mark.

Another positive is he handles any ground and if they go hard enough up top, he will thunder home and will hopefully gain a deserved win this time.

16:55 Musselburgh - Mrs Bagerran @ 8/1

Somewhat of a Musselburgh specialist these days, dual course and distance winner MRS BAGERRAN can find her way back to the winner's circle in the closing 5f handicap.

The daughter of Kodiac wouldn't want soft or heavy ground, but good to soft is fine so she might get away with it here. She was below her best here last time out, but is the type that can bounce back.

One thing is for sure, Mrs Bagerran won't hang about. As soon as the stalls open she's going to blaze a trail and with good claimer William Pyle back on claiming 3lb, she should have a fantastic chance to forge clear here.
