Horse Racing Tips: Juggernaut to roll on at Wincanton

There are five meetings scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, three jumps cards accompanied by a pair of AW Flat fixtures.  

First off is Hexham at 12:46, closely followed by Warwick (12:55), Ffos Las (13:05) and Dundalk (13:45). Kempton’s floodlit card, which gets underway at 16:05, concludes proceedings. Among our Wednesday fancies is one for Toby Lawes in the opener at Ffos Las, the gelding having shown significant promise on his debut at the track last month.

13:05 Ffos Las - Klimt Madrik @ 2/1

The Toby Lawes-trained KLIMT MADRIK shaped with immense promise on his rules debut over 2m4f here last month and, although a drop back to 2m is a slight concern, his proven stamina will be a big help in the prevailing conditions.

The five-year-old had been comfortably held in a couple of Irish points in early 2024 and wasn’t seen again until the end of last month when sent off at 33-1 for what was likely a warm maiden hurdle.

He finished fourth, beaten around seven lengths, but he could easily be marked up, having made a horrendous error at the second-last (usual third-last).

He’s entitled to strip fitter for that outing and he may represent the value in the race against Olly Murphy’s likely market leader, There Runs Mary.

13:25 Warwick - Diamond Geezer @ 9/4

DIAMOND GEEZER won at Perth last month despite a sloppy round of jumping and he should be up to defying a 6lb rise.

The Olly Murphy-trained selection has done well since being stepped up to 2m4f, finding one too good at Uttoxeter on his handicap debut a year ago and chasing home the in-form Shantou Lucky on his seasonal return at Worcester in September.

He had first-time cheekpieces on when scoring at Perth under Sean Bowen, but it was a far from perfect performance and he should have more to come granted a more fluent jumping display.

Lewis Saunders takes off a valuable 3lb, which might just give him the edge.

17:40 Kempton - Silver Peak  @ 9/2

Charlie Appleby’s SILVER PEAK makes his handicap debut off what looks a potentially lenient mark, the son of Dubawi having shown a good level of ability as a juvenile.

The three-year-old made his debut over 7f here in August last year, keeping on steadily for fourth of the 12 runners behind the now 112-rated Detain, who is a perfect 3-3 on the artificial surfaces.

He showed the benefit of that experience upped to a mile at Haydock the following month, comfortably beating Ralph Beckett’s Sir Dinadan, who won by a wide margin at Pontefract subsequently and went on to finish fifth in the Epsom Derby in June.

His last piece of form is arguably the most impressive, a five length defeat behind Aidan O’Brien’s Delacroix - a dual Group 1 winner this term - in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Newmarket.

He’s clearly had his problems since then and has now been gelded, but he starts out in handicaps off just 98 and surely won’t be far away if retaining anything like his old ability.
