Horse Racing Tips: Ice Dancer the one to beat in Staffordstown

We have a rare Tuesday treat on our hands this week, with some Group 3 action on offer in Ireland. There are also another four meetings taking place across Britain, including a couple of National Hunt fixtures. Perth gets us underway with an eight-race card, with Yarmouth, Exeter and the Curragh next on the agenda. Newcastle’s all-weather fixture takes us through the evening.
There are three runners on Tuesday who have caught our eye and chief amongst them is an Aidan O’Brien runner in the feature race of the day and Wayne Lordan may have made a mistake by not picking her. Read on for our Tuesday Horse Racing Tips.

15:00 Perth - Tripoli Flyer @ 5/6
There aren’t many standard novice chases on the calendar these days, as handicaps tend to draw more entries. There is one at Perth on Tuesday however and Fergal O’Brien will be seeking to take advantage with the very smart hurdler TRIPOLI FLYER.
He won a decent bumper at Lingfield in January 2024 and went on to finish second to a stablemate in Grade 2 company at Aintree after that. Earning a rating of 142 over hurdles, his two rivals have at least 5lb to find with O’Brien’s gelding.
Tripoli Flyer won the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle at Kempton last season and went on to finish third in a Grade 1 at Punchestown, although he was nowhere near the winner that day and finished 20 lengths adrift.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if there was more to come now going chasing but he won’t need to improve in order to win this. Perth is almost 400 miles away from Fergal O’Brien’s yard and he should be bringing home the first-place prize money.

15:17 Curragh - Ice Dancer @ 8/1
Conditions are set to be very testing at the Curragh on Tuesday, with the going officially described as heavy at the time of writing. One horse who won’t be troubled by that is Aidan O’Brien’s ICE DANCER, who won on heavy at Gowran last time out.
She struggled on debut here but it’s very common for Ballydoyle two-year-olds to need the experience before improving significantly on their next starts. This filly did exactly that, leaving that debut effort well behind her to get off the mark.
The step up to a mile clearly helped and she’s likely to improve again here. Ronan Whelan rides, with Wayne Lordan apparently preferring Sugar Island, but it wouldn’t be the first time that he has picked the wrong horse and that could be the case once again.

16:20 Yarmouth - Gold Penny @ 13/2
John & Thady Gosden often target Yarmouth and they have a very healthy 36 per cent strike-rate at the track so far this season, with nine winners from 25 runners. GOLD PENNY makes her handicap debut there on Tuesday and could provide winner number 10.
This thrice-raced filly was well beaten on debut but showed signs of improvement when upped to 1m4f at Kempton next time. Bumping into a smart prospect at Lingfield last time out, she ran a cracker to finish second.
Handicaps could facilitate significant improvement and it’s hard to argue with an opening mark of 74.
