Haydock park racecourse

There are six meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with four taking place on the Flat and two coming over jumps. First off is Haydock before they go at Bangor, Ascot, Down Royal, Kilbeggan and Kempton.

Among our horse racing tips for Friday is one for trainer Jim Goldie who's a bit of an Ayr specialist that might be capable of transferring his best to Haydock.

Today's Horse Races

13:25 Haydock - Glasses Up @ 18/1

There is no doubt that GLASSES UP saves his best for Ayr and he recorded his eighth victory at that course when landing a 1m2f handicap there only last month. However, Haydock is a similar Flat, left-handed track and he might, therefore, be able to replicate that form on Merseyside.

Glasses Up has run only twice at Haydock and he finished a good third over course and distance five years ago off a mark 18lb higher than this. That is further evidence that the track shouldn’t pose any sort of problem for him.

The Jim Goldie-trained nine-year-old is only 3lb higher than when recording that most recent success at Ayr last month and the form is working out well. The second and sixth have both scored subsequently and a reproduction of that effort might be good enough for Glasses Up.

He was disappointing at Musselburgh last time, but that is a sharp, right-handed venue totally different from this and there is every chance that he can bounce back.

This is an Extra Place Race, with Betfred paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

14:00 Haydock - Grace Angel @ 14/1

The 5f handicap will be fast and furious up the straight at Haydock and that will suit GRACE ANGEL, who showed that she has lots of speed when winning at downhill Brighton recently.

The Darryll Holland-trained filly is only 4lb higher than for that success and the return to Haydock is in her favour. She has won one of her two outings at that track and the victory came over course and distance last year off a mark 5lb higher than she runs from here.

Grace Angel was well held when bidding to follow up her Brighton victory at Windsor last time, but she still showed plenty of speed and lost two places only inside the final half-furlong. She would probably have been placed at a more speed favouring track.

She is 1lb lower in the weights here, in a weaker race, and is fancied to return to form.

15:45 Haydock - Billy No Mates @ 7/2

There is a lot to like about BILLY NO MATES in this staying handicap, as he simply loves Haydock and has now dropped to a mark 2lb lower than when last successful at the track.

Billy No Mates hasn’t run at Haydock since that last win, which was his third from just five outings at the course, and he showed he still has plenty of ability earlier in the season.

He was a good second at Pontefract in April off a mark 6lb higher than this and a reproduction of that form, on his favoured soft surface, will probably be good enough.

The selection wasn’t beaten far when ninth at York last time, suggesting that he remains on good terms with himself, so he should be ready to go for his return here after 56 days off for useful 7lb claimer Rhys Elliott, who was on board for his last run.
