Plenty of Friday racing action ahead across Britain and Ireland with six meetings taking place as the weekend looms.

Ascot boasts Listed action and they are joined on the Flat by evening all-weather meets at Newcastle and Dundalk, while jumps action is at Fontwell, Downpatrick and Hexham.

William Haggas and Jim Crowley are fancied to collect in the Listed Noel Murless Stakes at Ascot, their feature race on Friday afternoon.

15:57 Ascot – Naqeeb @ 7/4

The Listed Noel Murless Stakes is Ascot’s feature race on Friday and it features a couple of contenders aiming to rebound after St Leger disappointment last month at Doncaster in Chesspiece and Middle Earth.

They were well held in the Town Moor contest late on and may have had too much on their plates with the winner, Continuous, running a commendable fifth since in the Arc.

Middle Earth’s breakthrough win came in a Newmarket novice in July when edging out Naqeeb – the pair some distance clear of everything else.

John & Thady Gosden’s charge then fended off Denmark to win the Melrose Handicap at York, though the runner-up’s subsequent outing behind Naqeeb at Haydock gives rise to the idea that the Shadwell runner can avenge his Newmarket defeat here.

He has won both starts since that afternoon and done so with plenty to spare and looks a progressive sort. He’s superbly bred, being closely related to top-class pair Baaeed and Hukum, and can justify inclusion on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for today’s action.

17:45 Newcastle – Starshiba @ 9/1

David O’Meara’s Starshiba should relish an ease in grade and the return to Newcastle in the Quaff Box Handicap over a mile this evening.

The Acclamation gelding has positive figures here and won on his last two starts in the north-east in March and July, while also boasting a runner-up and a close fourth from just five starts here.

He was beaten four-lengths when midfield in a Class 2 at Kempton last time out, outrunning odds of 100/1 and travelling quite stylishly for a long way.

He is just 2lb above his last win-mark now and takes a drop in class as he attempts to shine once more at Newcastle. He is also on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for today’s action and is a fair shout at the prices.
