Friday Racing Tips: Newland & Insole can fly high across the cards

All-weather racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Friday, with five meetings taking place in the afternoon and evening. First off is Wetherby, and then they go to Fontwell, Lingfield, Southwell, and Dundalk.

Among our fancies are two for Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole that have been running some creditable races recently.

16:20 Fontwell - Tommy The Tank @ 2/1

Look out for TOMMY THE TANK at Fontwell, as the Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole gelding looks primed to follow up on his emphatic Hereford win.

This seven-year-old has had only three starts under rules, placing twice and winning once, and the front-running tactics adopted at Ascot on his second start has brought out the best in him.

In that Class 3 event at Ascot, he attempted to make all, but when jumping the last, he made a mistake and jumped to his right, which helped Belliano beat him in the run-in by roughly a length.

The Paul Nicholl’s trained Belliano has since boosted that form by winning well at Market Rasen.

In his next start at Hereford, Tommy The Tank jumped well and made all, beating next-time-out winner Dwight K Schrute by roughly 13 lengths. He could prove too tough to peg back here.

Phil McEntee’s sprinter MIDNIGHTATTHEOASIS has rejuvenated his career recently since dropping back down to the minimum trip of 5f.

In the last two weeks, this son of Oasis Dream has won well twice, the latest being Tuesday night at Newcastle.

In both of those victories, he was partnered with Rossa Ryan, who returns for today’s duties in the saddle. Rossa seems to be able to get the best out of him, as before his return, Midnightattheoasis was on a lengthy losing run.

He carries a 5lb penalty here, but that shouldn’t stop him from getting the better of today’s rivals in this open enough contest.

Since joining his new stable, DIAMONDONTHEHILL has run some good races without winning on the all-weather, placing in three out of five runs for Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole.

Since joining the stable, they have been on a fact-finding mission about his optimal trip. He has been tried at 7f, 1m, and 1m 1/2f, but today’s trip of 7f is his best as he has finished second twice for his new stable at this distance.

On his last start, he had valid excuses as he ran into Our Havana, who was well-supported in the market and looked well ahead of his mark, but against lesser opposition here, Diamondonthehill should be able to break his duck for his new stable.
