Friday's Racing Tips

  • 19:35 Newmarket - Bulldog Drummond @ 10/3
  • 20:10 Newmarket - Rosy Affair @ 9/4

17:50 Newmarket - Post Rider @ 6/5

William Buick is at Newmarket on Friday night and has an outstanding chance of landing this 1m2f fillies’ handicap on the in-form POST RIDER, who comes here seeking a hat-trick.

The daughter of Postponed has taken off since switched to turf after a break this season and appears to be doing only just enough to win. That makes her a hard horse for the handicapper to assess and the narrow margin of her victories means she has gone up only 2lb.

That could drastically underestimate her progress as she has been keeping on nicely to win over a mile at Brighton and Nottingham on her last two starts, shaping like she wants further.

She is certainly bred to get up in trip as both of her half-siblings were at their best over 1m4f, so the step up to 1m2f should bring plenty of further improvement for Post Rider.

She is well suited by fast ground and an undulating track, so can take another step forward.

19:35 Newmarket - Bulldog Drummond @ 10/3

Newmarket trainer Patrick Owens has been making a name for himself and he can land a victory at his local track with BULLDOG DRUMMOND in this 7f handicap.

The three-year-old won twice on the all-weather for George Boughey last winter, but lost his way for that yard in two subsequent starts and was sold out of the stable afterwards.

However, maybe his last two disappointments for Boughey were due to a breathing problem, as Bulldog Drummond returned to form on his first start following wind surgery, and debut for Owens, when a good third on fast ground over 6f at this course last Saturday.

That was a huge run from Bulldog Drummond as he wasn’t the fastest away and had to switch at a crucial stage. He flew home when in the clear to finish never nearer and might have given the winner a race with more luck in running. It was an eyecatching performance.

The strong manner in which he finished out his race is enough to convince that the step up to 7f will be right in his wheelhouse and he should improve for that first run in five months.

20:10 Newmarket - Rosy Affair @ 9/4

Buick might be capable of striking again in this 6f fillies’ handicap on ROSY AFFAIR, who has won two of her four starts for the George Boughey stable and is improving.

The lightly raced Havana Grey filly showed plenty of promise when recording form figures of 212 on her first three starts, but it was her latest run at Chepstow that really caught the eye.

Rosy Affair was making her turf debut on fast ground that day and recorded a hugely improved effort to comfortably land a 5f handicap. That was after doing a lot wrong.

She was awkward from the stalls and then hung all over the track, but still proved far too good, winning by a length and looking value for a lot further than the margin.

The handicapper has put her up 6lb, but she is still learning her trade and is open to loads more improvement when the penny drops, especially as she is so lightly raced on turf.

The return to 6f shouldn’t be a problem for Rosy Affair as her other win came at this trip and she should be too good once again.
