Today's Horse Races

14:25 York – Point Lonsdale @ 7/4

After the dominance of Stradivarius in recent years, it's no slight on the current crop of stayers' to suggest the division lacks depth. Kyprios is the main player, but Aidan O'Brien has not targeted this race with him and so, instead, it is POINT LONSDALE that represents the Ballydoyle supremo.

The son of Australia is a winner of seven from 17 career starts. After starting last season with Group-race wins at the Curragh and Chester over a mile-and-a-quarter, he came up a bit short in a quartet of starts in Group 1 company.

He didn't shine in the Middle East in the spring but was back on form in a wide-margin Ormonde Stakes win at Chester in May as he tacked 1m5½f, the longest trip in his career to date.

He wasn't beaten far in one run since, dropping in trip again for the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in June, and has been freshened up now for this rise in distance.

The class-dropping Gregory for John & Thady Gosden is a rival of substance potentially, albeit winless in 14 months, but that aside these aren't a stellar crop of stayers and Ryan Moore's partner may just have too many guns for them.

19:05 Hamilton – Theory Of Tides @ 13/2

The Lanark Silver Bell Handicap is one of Hamilton's proud traditions and a field of 15 are set to contest the Class 2 heritage handicap over a mile-and-a-half.

William Haggas' La Yakel and Irish raider Toll Stone for Emmet Mullins are a pair to look closely at but so, too, should be THEORY OF TIDES on third start for John & Thady Gosden.

The Galileo colt won his first two, a Nottingham novice over 1m2f and a Yarmouth contest over 1m3½f in May, before coming up short in the Group 2 King Edward VII at Royal Ascot in June.

That was a major ask on reflection and he now makes his first start in a handicap off a mark of 95.

He's the only 3YO in this field and has just 8st 12lb on his back in first-time cheekpieces and Robert Havlin's partner is worth an interest.

19:12 Killarney – La Dame Blanche @ 14/1

The Kingdom Gold Cup Handicap at Killarney could be another chance for thriving mare LA DAME BLANCHE to shine.

She was largely campaigned at shorter trips by Mick Mulvany but her stamina is being further tested since switching to William Ross and she has two wins from five for this yard, over 1m4f at Cork and 1m5½f at Ballinrobe, this season.

She really relished the test in that second win last month and a drop in trip since at Sligo was perhaps not ideal. She remains unexposed at this sort of trip and from a reduced mark of 83 also has her rider claiming 7lb in the saddle now.

This is a Extra Place Race, with 5 places on offer instead of 4 at 1/5 the odds.
