There are five meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday and the feature comes at Newbury, where there is some competitive action over jumps.

First off is Lingfield before they go at Newbury, Hexham, Dundalk and Newcastle.

Amongst our Friday fancies is one for trainer Chris Gordon, who enjoys plenty of success at Newbury and appears to have a good chance in the big handicap hurdle there.

  • 15:33 Newbury - David’s Well @ 3/1
  • 19:45 Newcastle - Golden Rainbow @ 3/1

15:12 Lingfield - Uzincso @ 10/1

It’s not often that siding with an eight-year-old on the Flat can pay dividends, but there could be an exception to that rule at Lingfield on Friday when UZINCSO has a huge chance.

He was beaten only a length and a half into fourth on his last visit to this track over course and distance in December and has since backed that up with two solid runs at Kempton.

Uzincso took well to the addition of cheekpieces when doing best of those who raced prominently to finish third in a strongly-run race over a mile two outings ago and is better than he was able to show back over that same course and distance on his last start. He was drawn wide in stall seven and simply couldn’t get competitive.

He steps back up to 1m2f here and is 2lb lower than for his good effort over course and distance over Christmas, with Danny Muscutt back in the saddle. Muscutt has ridden more winners for Uzincso’s trainer John Butler than all bar Adam Kirby and is a positive booking.

15:33 Newbury - David’s Well @ 3/1

This 2m1/2f handicap hurdle is one of the feature races on the Newbury card and it provides a good opportunity for the Chris Gordon-trained DAVID’S WELL to make a winning handicap debut.

The in-form Gordon has a solid record in races of this type at Newbury and David’s Well has already appeared at the track three times in just four starts since joining the stable.

That is enough to suggest that Gordon might have had a race like this at Newbury in mind for David’s Well and he shaped nicely when fifth over course and distance last month. He finished strongly to lose out by just four and a half lengths and nearly took fourth late on.

David’s Well made short work of weaker opposition when dropped into a maiden hurdle at Plumpton last time, bolting up by 14 lengths in a good time for the grade.

A mark of 108 doesn’t look too harsh for this first start in handicaps and he can strike.

19:45 Newcastle - Golden Rainbow @ 3/1

A high draw is often the key to winning on the straight course at Newcastle and GOLDEN RAINBOW has the ideal berth in stall nine of nine.

The five-year-old has developed into a course specialist and comes here seeking a third win from his last four starts at the track. He is only 6lb higher than for the first of those victories.

Golden Rainbow carries a 5lb penalty for his last success over course and distance on Monday and that was only a classified event. He will need to step up again now that he is returned to handicap company, but he is in the form of his life and Clifford Lee is back on.

The top jockey is 1-4 for the Rebecca Menzies yard in recent seasons and that sole success came aboard Golden Rainbow at this course last month.
