There’s just three UK & Irish meetings left standing on Friday after Haydock, Fakenham and Uttoxeter were forced to abandon due to waterlogging.
The action on the Flat comes from Redcar and under the Friday Night Lights from Newcastle and Dundalk on the all-weather.
We have a trio of fancies, including one returning to Newcastle after a luckless visit run there a fortnight ago.
Friday Racing Tips
17:00 Newcastle – Artisan Dancer @ 2/1
Not untypically for the Charlie Johnston yard, Artisan Dancer was able to rack up a sequence of wins once he found his touch, a trait the handler has clearly inherited from his father.
The Mastercraftsman gelding had gone close at Southwell (1m3f) in March and, after some tame turf runs in the summer, scored back at the Nottinghamshire layout in August over the same trip.
Further wins followed at Chelmsford (1m5½f) and Lingfield (2m) in September, with his stamina really kicking in as he powered home at the latter track on that first attempt at two miles.
He came to Newcastle at the start of the month seeking a four-timer and, while he was initially outpaced in the home straight, he was building a head of steam and looked likely to sweep by inside the final furlong, only to see his path blocked up the running rail and, momentum checked, his chance was gone.
He is off the same mark of 68 now and goes back up in trip and there should be more to come from Artisan Dancer as a stayer. He’s on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for Friday’s action and looks a reliable conveyance to justify his inclusion.
19:15 Dundalk – Amemri e/w @ 8/1
A sure sign of winter’s looming presence is the weekend starting with action from Dundalk under the lights and Division 2 of their Floodlit Fridays At Dundalk Handicap looks a decent chance for David Marnane’s Amemri to go well over a course and distance where the Time Test filly has obliged before.
She won here back in March over the 7f trip, getting up late in the piece to score under Andy Slattery for something of a shock result.
She has enjoyed a decent summer on the turf since, adding to her tally at Limerick (1m, yielding) in June with Luke McAteer in the saddle, the Co Donegal pilot now doing most of the steering for Marnane’s string.
Amemri was fifth of 25 in a Cork handicap (7f, good) last month – a contest in which the front trio were all beneficiaries of claiming riders easing their burdens.
She is now below her previous win-mark at this venue and returns to Dundalk with a good draw and a decent chance in what is a Betfred Extra Place Race (four places).
20:30 Newcastle – One Of Our Own @ 11/2
The Newcastle nightcap is a six-furlong handicap and a Betfred Extra Place Race (four places) in which a case can be made for One Of Our Own for Rebecca Menzies and Paddy Mathers.
The Poet’s Word filly scored at Redcar (6f, good to firm) in August and ran well from this mark subsequently when fourth of 14 at Carlisle over the same trip once more on fast ground.
She was slow from the gates in that contest, a bit keen in rear early on and essentially could be marked up a notch having stayed on late to get up into fourth.
She showed she can handle Tapeta in three starts as a novice, including here, and should be in the argument from this workable mark of 60.
