Uttoxeter racecourse

The weather has put one meeting under threat on Friday but there’s still five further meetings to look forward to, even if we lose Haydock. Redcar is the first fixture to kick off, before Uttoxeter, Haydock and Fakenham, whilst Newcastle and Dundalk keep us entertained in the evening.

We have three strong fancies to follow for our horse racing tips for Friday and they include a Lucinda Russell-trained chasing debutant that could find any amount of improvement in this sphere.

Horse Racing Tips - Friday, October 18

  • 14:45 Uttoxeter - Myretown @ 11/4
  • 15:55 Uttoxeter - Pretending @ 4/1
  • 19:45 Dundalk - Just For One Day @ 5/1

14:45 Uttoxeter - Myretown @ 11/4

Potentially one to watch over fences this season, Lucinda Russell’s MYRETOWN was a comfortable winner on his second start in Irish point-to-points at Dromahane. He has made a more than satisfactory start to his career under rules and is set to make his chasing debut.

Myretown looked a little too green but ran respectably when fourth in a Hexham bumper on his rules debut but he was always going to improve with some obstacles in front of him.

Progressive in three starts over hurdles, he made all the running to get off the mark over hurdles in a Kelso maiden over 2m5f when last seen. Russell’s gelding travelled beautifully throughout and none of his rivals could get anywhere near him.

He’s got plenty of size and scope so we can expect further improvement now going over the larger obstacles. By no means the finished article yet, he’s still learning on the job and he’s likely to be much better than a 123-rated horse in time.

This is an Extra Place Race, with three available instead of two at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

15:55 Uttoxeter - Pretending @ 4/1

Watch out for the useful mare PRETENDING at Uttoxeter, as she has scope to improve beyond her current mark over hurdles.

Lucy Wadham’s mare was not for catching in a decent race at Cheltenham in April and successfully made all to come out on top by three lengths.

That was the five-year-old’s second success over timber and the handicapper has responded by giving her a 7lb rise. We’ll certainly learn more here but it doesn’t look too unreasonable on the face of it.

It’s very hard to knock this consistent mare, who has made the frame in nine of her 12 starts over hurdles and Gavin Sheehan has been booked for the ride here.

Dargiannini and Lac De Constance look like the biggest dangers but both have to overcome substantial absences, which could give this daughter of Make Believe the edge.

19:45 Dundalk - Just For One Day @ 5/1

This looks like a competitive handicap and whilst Ger Lyons’ Vivienda is likely to be popular, she could be worth taking on with the thoroughly unexposed JUST FOR ONE DAY. The four-year-old makes her handicap debut here and has had just three starts thus far.

Her debut effort at Fairyhouse wasn’t much to write home about but she showed significant improvement to finish fourth at the Curragh next time. Mark Molloy’s filly got outpaced halfway but kept on nicely and shaped as if the extra furlong here will suit.

Further improvement was on display again over the same course and distance next time and despite being a little upset at the start, she managed to get off the mark.

An opening mark of 72 looks pretty reasonable and her profile suggests she’ll step forward again. We can expect another big run if she continues on her current trajectory.
