York racecourse

As we move from the Flat to the jumps season, there is action at an usual blend of tracks on Friday.

The feature meeting is at Newmarket, where there is Group 1 action in the Fillies' Mile (15:35), while there is also racing from York, Chepstow and Downpatrick in the afternoon, followed by Kempton and Dundalk in the evening. Amongst our horse racing tips for Friday is a sprinter who thrives in soft ground, and a chaser who is best caught fresh in the autumn.

Horse Racing Tips - Friday, October 11

  • 15:00 Newmarket - Quinault @ 9/1
  • 15:45 York - Aberama Gold @ 8/1
  • 15:50 Chepstow - Enrilo @ 17/2

Today's Horse Races

15:00 Newmarket - Quinault @ 9/1

The Stuart Williams-trained QUINAULT is a streaky horse to say the least. Nine of his 10 career wins, a good return from 19 starts however you slice it, have come in runs of three or more successive wins.

He is on a four-timer and we do not need to worry about the handicapper catching up with him as this is a Group 2 race.

It is a step up in class for Quinault, who found Group races a bit too much earlier in the season. It is clear that he was just finding his form, however, as had he run like he has in winning Listed races the last three times he would surely have finished much closer than he did in those better races.

Quinault has lots of form at Newmarket and his front-running style is likely to be more of an asset the deeper into autumn we get. He is a double-figure price for this race and that is too big.

This is an Super Extra Place Race, so Betfred will be paying 4 Places (1/5 Odds) instead of 3.

15:45 York - Aberama Gold @ 8/1

Because ABERAMA GOLD thrives on softer ground, you might have thought that his best chance of winning this autumn came at Haydock last time and that his narrow failure to do so says he is not as good as he was.

That would be harsh. In fact he ran a really strong race at Haydock. The winner is an improving three-year-old and runner-up Wiltshire went off single-figure odds for a Group 3 next time.

On top of that, Aberama Gold would also have been closer to them at Haydock but for rider Mark Winn stopping riding briefly at around the half-furlong pole, which the jockey reported was because his mount became unbalanced.

Whatever happened, Aberama Gold deserves to be marked up on that run and this course winner commands respect.

This is an Extra Place Race so Betfred are paying 5 Places (1/5 Odds) instead of 4.

15:50 Chepstow - Enrilo @ 17/2

Horses stepping into veterans' company for the first time over fences have a strong record.

It is part of the reason these races are such good betting platforms that because we are so familiar with these horses, we also know their level and those coming from stronger, all-age races have that little bit more up their sleeve.

ENRILO is making his first step into a veterans' race and has everything right for a big run. This horse has always been at his best when relatively fresh - all but one of his wins have come either first or second time back from a break.

He has also performed well after wind surgery, which he had in the summer. He was second in a race at this meeting four years ago after his last wind op.

It has been hard to train Enrilo down the years, but he finished 2023-24 in good order.

He was second in the Edinburgh National and shaped well without truly getting home in two starts over 3m4f afterwards. Back around 3m and in calmer waters, he can land an overdue success.

This is an Super Extra Place Race, so Betfred will be paying 4 Places (1/5 Odds) instead of 3.
