Flat racing holds sway across the UK on Friday while over in Ireland it’s all about the jumps, with no less than seven meetings in total.

My horse racing tips for the day includes one for trainer Charlie Appleby, who will be hoping now is the time for his top filly to finally secure her much awaited Group 1 win in Britain.

14:45 York - Hold A Dream @ 14/1

The John Smith’s Cup meeting gets underway at York this Friday and the feature of the day is a Group 3 event for fillies and mares. Preference is for HOLD A DREAM, whose jockey, PJ McDonald, was aboard the winner of this race last year.

Despite being unable to get off the mark as a three-year-old in this campaign, Clive Cox’s filly has often ran well in defeat including two close second-placed finishes in listed events.

In her latest run at Sandown, she was unfortunate to run into the smart looking Town and Country and will be looking for some better luck here as she steps into group company for the first time.

Nevertheless, she is a smart filly who will enjoy the quick conditions and has a great chance of making an impact.

15:35 Newmarket - Cinderella's Dream @ 5/2

The feature on day two of Newmarket’s July Festival is the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes for fillies and mares, which is set over a mile.

This looks to be a fascinating renewal as the first and second-placed finishers from the Duke of Cambridge stakes at the Royal meeting are set to lock horns once more.

While Wathnan Racing’s Crimson Advocate put in one of the performances of the meeting when coming from last to first to claim victory, Godolphin’s CINDERELLA’s DREAM looks poised to take revenge at racing HQ.

Cinderella’s Dream was running under a 3lb penalty at Newmarket for her win in the Dahlia in May and was having her first start over a mile in over a year.

Jockey William Buick stated how a return to a straight track would be his preference for Cinderella’s Dream and this trip to Newmarket could provide the perfect opportunity for the duo to score.

19:30 Kilbeggan - Spanish Harlem @ 3/1

The feature race at Kilbeggan is the Midlands National Handicap Chase over 3m 1f and trainer Willie Mullins, who doesn’t usually target this event, looks to have a strong hand with Paul Townend taking the ride of SPANISH HARLEM.

The seven-year-old gelding enters the race following a consistent spring campaign and looks set to continue that solid form.

After an unlucky carry-out in the Scottish National in April, he showed good form with a fourth-placed finish in the Gold Cup at Sandown.

Spanish Harlem’s a strong stayer and, more importantly, he arrives here race-fit after a win in early June.

With a clear run, he has every chance of being a strong contender at the Irish track.
