Horse Racing Tips: Exciting mare to light up Down Royal on Friday

There's a mixture of Flat and Jumps racing in the UK and Ireland on Friday, with six meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

Among my horse racing tips for Friday is one of the most exciting horses in Gordon Elliott's stable, who goes in the feature at Down Royal.

BRIGHTERDAYSAHEAD is the pick from two horses representing Gordon Elliott in the six-runner €50,000 Grade 3 2m1f Bottlegreen Hurdle, the feature race on Friday’s Down Royal card.

Elliott has won four of the last five runnings, including through the subsequent Champion Hurdle runner-up Irish Point in 2023.

The five-year-old Kapgarde mare arrives 6-7, including a Thurles reappearance success in October 2023 and a course-and-distance victory in a Grade 3 novice contest at this meeting last year.

She suffered her only defeat when second to Golden Ace in the Grade 2 Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but she easily landed the Grade 2 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle against the boys the following month. She can enhance her considerable reputation with victory here.

KALEIDOSCOPE EYES makes plenty of appeal in the Class 6 5f Nursery Handicap from Newcastle, representing Michael Appleby with Alistair Rawlinson in the saddle.

Appleby is 2-15 (13 per cent) with his juvenile runners at Newcastle. Rawlinson is 231-2041 (11 per cent) when riding for Appleby.

The selection arrives 2lb ahead of the handicapper after an improved second from the front over 7f at Southwell recently on her first start on a synthetic surface, and on her debut for Appleby, after a small break having left Michael Attwater.

Appleby immediately steps the daughter of No Nay Never down to the minimum trip, and that potentially suitable adjustment takes the eye.
