Chepstow races scaled

There are five meetings in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday and Chepstow looks like the place to target with an each-way double the suggested wager at the Welsh venue.

16:20 Chepstow - Rikissa @ 9/4

Rikissa is one of eight runners due to contest the six-furlong handicap at 16:20 and potential is the buzz word here.

Ralph Beckett’s charge will be having just her fourth career start at Chepstow, but clues in the form and betting suggest she may be ready to strike.

The three-year-old was backed in from 6/1 to 7/4 favourite on debut, when running third in a soft ground maiden at Newbury, and it was clear that the filly is held in high regard.

Liberate and Quamby, who finished behind Rikissa at Newbury, are now rated 80 and 81, and Orange Sky, who finished second in that contest, has since won a fillies handicap at Newmarket off a mark of 80.

Clearly, those horses have progressed, whereas Beckett’s runner disappointed next time out at Windsor.

However, the filly was off the track for 295 days following that poor run and she was sent off the 8/11 favourite for that novice race at Windsor, which suggests there may have been a problem.

Rikissa once again finished down the field on her return to action at Newbury 28 days ago, but she is likely to have needed that run and the three-year-old could never get into the race after being hampered at the start.

Soft conditions at Chepstow should suit, given Beckett hasn’t been shy to run Rikissa with ease in the ground, and the capable Luke Dace takes five pounds off the mark of 65.

17:25 Chepstow - Call Time @ 9/4

Play Rikissa in an each-way double with Call Time, who goes in the five furlong handicap at 17:20.

Stan Moore’s runner has put up two good efforts when finishing second twice in his last two runs at Ffos Las and the four-year-old is on a nice mark.

Call Time has avoided a rise in the weights for those runner-up efforts, and he may well have won on at least one of those occasions, had the four-year-old not hung in the closing stages.

Hopefully, Taylor Fisher can keep Moore’s charge on a straighter course at Chepstow and there is no doubt there is scope for success off a rating of 55.

Call Time won off a mark of 67 at Bath on soft ground less than 12 months ago and any further ease in the conditions would be a major boost to the four-year-old’s chances.

Heavy rain is forecast all day for Chepstow and the ground could become a bog by the final race on the card.

That will be music to Call Time’s ears and Moore’s charge looks sure to go close.
