Horse Racing Daily Double: Story seeks perfect ending at Sedgefield

There are six race meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with flat cards at Haydock and Sailsbury, all-weather racing at Southwell and Lingfield, beach action at Laytown, but an evening jumps fixture at Sedgefield holds the most interest.

17:28 Sedgefield - Rory’s Story @ 5/1
Tristan Davidson’s charge is a consistent performer with form figures of 3,2,4,1,2 in her last five starts.
The six-year-old was an impressive winner when bolting up by six lengths in 0-100 company at Cartmel two starts ago. Rory’s Story travelled strongly in that contest and beat the well-backed Pittsburgh by six lengths.
Things didn’t go quite as well at the same track last time out, but the six-year-old probably sat too far back at a speed-favouring track and she still ran with credit staying on to finish third.
The mare looked to be crying out for a step up in trip on that occasion and she moves up four furlongs from that Cartmel effort.
That should be in Rory’s Story favour, and Davidson’s runner is a sound jumper, who could still be improving at the age of six.

19:00 Sedgefield - The Navigator @ 11/4
The Navigator has form figures of 1,3,2,1,2,1,1,6 at Sedgefield and Dianne Sayer’s performer can go in again at the County Durham track.
The 10-year-old is a course and distance winner having won over the two-and-a-half-mile trip last October and that success came off a hurdle rating of 101.
Clearly, the Navigator isn’t getting any younger, but he knows how to find his way home and Sayer has the veteran in good form.
He beat the now 100-rated Gavin at Cartmel to score last time out and showed a good battling attitude on that occasion.
The Navigator’s two previous wins had come over further, which is another reason to upgrade that effort and a rating of 98 may not stop Sayer’s charge from going in again.
Testing conditions would be a concern for the son of Mastercraftsman, but the current going description at Sedgefield is good and the forecast doesn’t appear to be too detrimental to the ten-year-old’s chances.
The Navigator can find his way to the winners’ enclosure as the second leg of a daily double.
