Horantzau d’Airy Grand National Odds 2025: Recent form suggests tough race

When the final ratings were announced and the last cut was made, Horantzau d’Airy was the first horse out of the field for Saturday’s Grand National. With the defection of Farouk d’Alene, however, he comes in as the first alternate. But what he doesn’t come into the race with is form.
We review Horantzau d'Airy’s Grand National Odds and tell you why he’ll be considered one of the longer shots in the race…

Horantzau d’Airy comes into the Grand National is shocking form and with a new trainer, along with a new owner since we last saw him on the course. Willie Mullins no longer trains this eight-year-old, with Michael Keady overseeing his development at his stables in Newmarket after the horse was purchased by John Gill for £50,000.
That development comes after three really disappointing outings on the spin. In the Gold Cup at Newbury, this horse was priced to be in the middle of the pack but was never fluent, ending up ninth in a race with just 12 finishers.
A month later, Leopardstown was the venue for another ninth-place finish and he would end up in exactly the same position in February at the same venue. Three straight times ending up just inside the top 10 does not indicate form of a Grand National contender.
In the middle of 2024 though, the outlook was a little bit different. Wins at Leopardstown and Clonmel to open the year had put him on firm footing to be a decent jumper. He followed that up with a runner-up finish at Roscommon before placing in a Class I at Galway. On that occasion, Horantzau d’Airy was sent off at 12/1 and certainly outperformed those odds. It firmly looked as if the direction of travel for his career was up.
A fall next time out was followed by another couple of runner-up finishes but every time you saw him out there, one thing was obvious: he never had another gear when his jockey asked him for more. That is a big concern considering the Grand National is over four miles long.
Then came those back-to-back-to-back ninth-place finishes and the change of owner and trainer. Could the new combination be exactly what this eight-year-old needed to get his career back on track? Possibly, but asking him to start a new chapter in the Grand National is a really tough sell.
