Hereford Tips: Pigeon House to start well for Candlish

There are four midweek meetings across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with both jumps and all-weather action in store. They go jumping at Hereford and Hexham while all-weather racing is from Kempton and Dundalk.

We are focused on the action at Hereford, where a seven-race card runs from 12:35-15:37.

Sayva won a maiden at Newcastle on second start over hurdles for Jonjo & AJ O'Neill last month and has scope for progress here, but he may do well to handle stable debutant PIGEON HOUSE for Jennie Candlish

The son of Saxon Warrior won a Ballinrobe handicap (2m2f, yielding to soft) in August off a mark of 126, defeating a previous winner in Mordor.

He was pulled up at Listed company at the Listowel Harvest Festival soon afterwards, but shouldn't be judged too harshly on that effort.

The four-year-old has plenty of scope to get back on track now and, while he concedes weight to the field on his stable bow, he may possess the requisite class to overcome it.

Bottom-weight NEWTONIAN could be one worth siding with in the Green Dragon Hotel Hereford Handicap Hurdle despite Matt Sheppard's charge racing from a couple of pounds out of the handicap.

The Telescope gelding notched his first win at Warwick (3m1f, good) in May and both runs this season have been competitive.

He was third at Ludlow (3m, good to soft) in October on his return from 149 days off, form that has been franked by the front two in their efforts since, and then finished fourth at Huntingdon (3m1f, good) just over a week later.

This trip suits well and conditions underfoot should be no concern. He has just 10st 2lb on his back now and is likely to get in the mix at an each-way price.

A winner over course and distance on good to soft ground a fortnight ago, CULLIGRAN has the opportunity to double her tally now for trainer John O'Shea.

She was brought wide to challenge off the final bend in that win here last time, jumping into an advantage at the final flight and ultimately proving much too strong as she drew clear by seven lengths to score.

She has gone up some 7lb for that win but the mare may be good enough to defy the assessor.

She had been consistent in maiden/novice company in the spring into summer and was only denied by a half-length in a Worcester handicap in July on good ground in what was just her second start at this trip.

Conditions look set to be optimal again now and now that she has found the winning blend she can go on to better things.
