Owner of Nick Rockett, Stewart Andrew, was in tears in the immediate aftermath as his eight-year-old gelding delivered him one of the greatest days in his life, which was also bittersweet following the passing of his wife in December 2022.
Trainer Mullins was also overcome with emotion after the race, and rightly so as he accomplished a phenomenal feat of saddling the first three horses past the post.
Nick Rockett has now secured Mullins his third Grand National win, and you have to imagine that there will be more to come in the near future.
His best shot and 2024 champion, I Am Maximus, finished second after another impressive run with Paul Townend on board over the four-mile circuit. Mullins' domination in jump racing was highlighted with the finish to this race, with the Irishman having five of his entries in the top seven.
The other Closutton stars to place were: Grangeclare West (third) and Minella Cocooner (seventh).
Betfred boss Fred Done was full of praise for the winning trainer. He said “Just when you thought Willie Mullins couldn’t dominate Horse Racing any further, he goes and sires a Grand National winner!
“It is an incredible achievement to have the first three home in any race, let alone one as competitive as the Grand National.
“Congratulations to the Mullins family.”
The Grand National is the biggest race in the UK and one of the largest across the world, which is evidenced by its £1m prize pot, of which £500k goes to the victor.
