Grangeclare West Grand National Odds 2025: Pretender or Contender?

Willie Mullins could put out a strong field of horses for the Grand National just based on who he has in his yard. Another very realistic option is Grangeclare West. This nine-year-old has shown some fragilities in the past but has also performed at a high level in big races.
Let’s take a look at the Grand National Odds of Grangeclare West and have a think about whether this is the Mullins horse to back this year…

The first thing that stands out about Grangeclare West is that weight. He’ll be carrying 11st 8lbs around Aintree on Saturday afternoon and that already makes this task a tough one even before looking at his recent form.
Those who believe in his chances are going to point to a very strong run in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown in February. He went off at a massive 66/1 price and certainly outperformed those odds, finishing second behind only the 1/2 favourite Galopin Des Champs. Performances such as these are the type that get punters intrigued about how good a horse really could be.
That run was on the back of a couple of outings where he improved each time. Momentum was certainly on his side going into the Webster Cup Chase, where he was expected to challenge stablemate El Fabiolo. Yet despite going off as the 11/2 second-favourite behind the red-hot choice in the betting (who had a 4/11 starting price), we saw very little as the nine-year-old came home plumb last.
An issue, however, may well be that such a good showing in the Irish Gold Cup has influenced the handicapper and this Willie Mullins-trained horse will go off with one of the highest weights in the field.
That is a concern, and on the back of such a poor run at Navan last month punters are going to have to consider which is the real Grangeclare West? Is it the contender who kept the wonderful Galopin Des Champs honest or is it the dud we saw last time out?
