French horse Galia Des Liteaux comes into the 2024 edition of the Grand National as Dan Skelton’s lone shot to win the race for the first time.

Following a very competitive run at Warwick in the Classic Chase back in January, there was certainly a bit of buzz surrounding this horse and her chances of heading to Aintree as a genuine contender to be at the forefront of the race. She gave plenty of weight to the winner that day, which indicated that it was a very good run.

A tune-up race at Exeter was expected to be just that, but going off as a 4/5 favourite she weakened four out and lost three places and was never able to find her stride once again. Dan Skelton’s representative at the track could offer no explanation for the sudden drop-off in pace and his team will certainly be hoping that it was just one of those things.

Until that poor run, it had been a win and two second-place finishes this season as her progress was certainly going in the right direction. She beat the live longshot The Goffer back at the start of 2023 at Warwick to show that this is a horse to be reckoned with.

It has been a good season for the Skeltons, having won four races at the Cheltenham Festival. It would be quite the story if they could follow that up with victory in the big one at Aintree.

Jockey Harry Skelton gets the ride, just like he has in her last 12 starts, and he’s looking for his first win at the Grand National, with a fifth-place finish his top result so far in his career.

The soft ground should suit but in a big field like this expect plenty of value to be found elsewhere. She may not even be the best mare in the field, Limerick Lace probably has that sewn up.
