Fil Dor Grand National Odds 2025: Can €620,000 impress around Aintree?

Gordon Elliott will send out Fil Dor at a pretty big price for the Grand National on Saturday hoping that a rough month or so for the trainer can turn around with a strong run for one of his stable at Aintree.

A month or so ago Gordon Elliott expected to rock up to Aintree with Galvin and 2024 runner-up Delta Work as his best chances to win the Grand National for the fourth time. Silver Birch won in 2007 before the wonderful and legendary Tiger Roll went back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.
Plans, as they say, change, as the former of those two hopes has been retired and the latter sadly passed from colic. It has left the stable at Cullentra House over in Ireland short of bona fide contenders for Saturday’s race but it does mean some horses deeper in his yard will get a chance to impress on the bigger stage.
One such horse is the seven-year-old Fil Dor, who made plenty of headlines last year winning a race when going off as the 1/40 favourite after a stunning spate of non-runners due to the going, which left just two at the start line.
This campaign has been nothing to write home about for this horse though, despite placing in three of four starts. Winning has eluded him and with a whopping €620,000 paid for him at the Tattersalls Ireland sale in February 2024, somebody clearly thought that he was worth a supersized investment.
So far, that early belief that there was a mighty fine horse ready to breakout has been wide of the mark but he is still just a seven-year-old. There is plenty of time to fulfil the hopes and expectations that that hefty price tag belies but this race seems to potentially be a bit early for him.
On the plus side, he has a sensational trainer who knows how to get horses ready for this race, so tough to just write his chances off entirely but he’ll be a big price for a reason.
