It’s the third and final day of the Chester May Festival and I’ve put together my four plays for the action. Course form usually holds up here and the draw plays a big part in finding a winner. Here are my Day 3 selections. At of the time of publication, a £1 each-way Lucky 15 slip (£30 total stake) could pay out £731.

Frankie Foster’s Chester Lucky 15 Tips – Friday 12 May, 2023

  • 1:30 – Boardman – 3/1
  • 2:05 – Savvy Victory – 7/2
  • 2.40 (Huxley Stakes) – Point Lonsdale – 11/10
  • 3.15 (Chester Cup) – Calling the Wind – 6/1

1:30 – Boardman – 3/1

Boardman went off favourite for this last year, he was drawn wide and went the long way round before flying home. He was only 5th that day but has gone on to win at Chester since.

This time, we have the draw on our side and although 5lb up from this meeting last year, Sean Kirrane takes off a valuable 3.

2:05 – Savvy Victory – 7/2

Savvy Victory is another rising in the weights but I don’t think 3lb is enough to stop him. He finished last season with a good 3rd at 10f on soft ground.

We know he goes on the ground, gets the trip, and has the benefit of a recent run on the AW for match fitness. Ryan Moore on board, who is having a great week.

2.40 (Huxley Stakes) – Point Lonsdale – 11/10

It is hard to go against Coolmore in these group races. Point Lonsdale had a good 2YO career and the Group 3 Curragh form looks even better as the second in that has gone on to win a group 2 since in Ireland.

Another for Ryan Moore and O’Brien…

3.15 (Chester Cup) – Calling the Wind – 6/1

Finding a winner in the Chester Cup is hard but Calling the Wind deserves to be near the top of the market.

Some of his best performances have come on soft, he will definitely stay having won over 2 and a half before and his mark has fallen from 105 to 100 which I think is quite generous.  Spencer booked to do the steering!
