Jonjo O’Neill Cheltenham Runners: ‘We’ve always liked him’

Ahead of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival, we sent Rupert Bell to Jackdaws Castle to get the lowdown on Jonjo O'Neill's Cheltenham Runners.

We also heard from Jonjo's son AJ, who prepares for his first Cheltenham since being named on the training license.

Springwell Bay (10/1 for the Jack Richards Novices' Handicap Chase, 8/1 for the Plate)

"We've always liked him. He was a little bit frustrating earlier in the season, getting beat but running nice races, and then they went a really good gallop, which is what he likes, on New Year's Day.

"Ground permitting, he'll go for one of the two-and-a-half mile races."

Crebilly (13/2 for the Plate, 10/1 for the Ultima)

"He's in good form. He'll go there, but what he'll run in at the minute I don't know. Let's hope we can get him there safe and sound and in the right race.

"He's not the biggest horse, he's only a handy little fella and very honest and normally jumps pretty well. Because of his size he needs to make sure he jumps well and do everything right, and then he goes there with a sporting chance."

Jipcot (25/1 for the Coral Cup)

"He's had quite a good season, he started off a little bit slower but since his win at Newbury he's been very consistent really and we're looking forward to going to Cheltenham with him.

"He's got a few entries - probably maybe looking more at the Coral Cup at this stage but he has an entry in the Pertemps, Martin Pipe and County, so lots of options."
