Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Odds
Stencil @ 5/1
The Fred Winter is one of the hardest races to call on Day 1 but our current favourite for the Fred Winter is the four-year-old Stencil. This JP McManus gelding won his first two races in France before finishing second to East India Dock at Cheltenham Trials Day back in January. The form looks strong but the early betting suggests this one could be very close.
Total Look @ 11/2
Second favourite is the Gavin Cromwell-trained Total Look, who has more experience than Stencil and is heavily fancied by the yard. He won on the flat last year and followed that up with a win over hurdles in November at Navan.
His only run here saw him finish third behind Quantock Hills in a December trial where he was in contention until the final flight. His mount here is Keith Donohue who should get the very best out of him.
Beyond Your Dreams @ 6/1
This filly was well-fancied in the ante-post betting but now looks fairly short at the price. She won last time out at Fairyhouse in a Maiden Hurdle but did make several mistakes along the way. JJ Slevin has been given the ride here and while she looks well at the weight, will she have enough class?
Puturhandstogether @ 13/2
Another Joseph O'Brien/McManus runner looks intriguing in the form of Puturhandstogether. Mark Walsh has chosen this Gelding over Beyond Your Dreams, which says a lot in itself.
A win over hurdles in Cork in December was followed by a runner-up behind Collaborative in February over this exact distance, where he started slowly but improved throughout.
Looks to have a chance...
Sony Bill @ 10/1
This French-bred Willie Mullins gelding won twice last year in France but has flattered to deceive in his only two races in Ireland. He likes to lead from the front but has been shown wanting in finishing third and fifth at Leopardstown.
However, it looks likely that Paul Townend may take the ride here, which is a huge show of faith in his ability. This is his handicap debut and things could be aligning nicely for a huge festival win.
Murcia @ 11/1
Another Mullins runner, this filly was again a winner in France last year and showed encouraging hurdle form when finishing second behind Bacchanalian at Naas last month. She came from behind to finish just a neck short but it appears Townend has selected Sony Bill over her here, which should give you a few pointers as to her chances.
Hot Fuss @ 12/1
This Tom Dascombe-trained gelding won over hurdles at Sandown in December and then stayed on well in a flat outing just three weeks ago to win at Southwell. David Bass is the likely jockey here and 12/1 looks a fair price for him to be amongst the front runners in the Fred Winter.
