Thursday 12th March 2026, 15:53

Here we are - we've made it, almost, through the week. Just Friday, Day 4, to savour; and that means the most coveted bauble of them all, the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

A mouth-watering, head-scratching renewal, with around 11 due to face the starter and plenty in with massive chances. Our Lucky 15 tips are of course taken from the seven-race card that kicks in at 13:20, with the first six live on ITV.

For the final time this week then - many thanks for your company, which is greatly appreciated, and we hope you've enjoyed yourselves. See you on Saturday!

13:20 - Maestro Conti @ 7/1

The first on Friday is the G1 Triumph Hurdle, for four-year-olds over a trip of 2m 1f.

Some absolute rocket ships have taken this down the years - the likes of Persian War, Kribensis, Attivo, Katchit, Tiger Roll and Lossiemouth to name but a few.

This year's renewal looks well up to scratch, and I'm going for a Team Skelton French-bred who is three-from-three so far over hurdles. Maestro Conti joined Dan at Alcester in October last and since has taken her two spins over timber in pleasing fashion - including here, 48 days ago, in a G2.

The sixth home that day has subsequently taken a £46k prize at Kempton and our pick is one of only three that's won at Cheltenham before - a definite plus.

'Maestro' runs in the famous colours of an owners group that includes Sir Alex Ferguson and Ged Mason, and they love a winner at these huge gatherings.

14:40 - Dinoblue @ 15/8

Mares' go 2m 4.5f in this G2 chase, and our selection Dinoblue is very nicely treated by the race conditions. She carries 11st 5lb, and is officially rated 159. That's top by at least 6lb, and plenty more in many cases, but she's getting a couple of pounds from Spindleberry (actually rated 153) and doesn't concede any more than 3lb to anything else.

She's 10 from 19 over fences, and has won five of her last six. She's the solid form pick for me and represents trainer Willie Mullins, owner JP McManus, and jockey Mark Walsh.

She took this contest last year, and was runner-up in 2024. The nine-year-old daughter of Doctor Dino will probably hope the anticipated rain materialises, and has a great deal going for her.

I'm intrigued by Panic Attack, for the Skeltons, a very impressive winner this term of big Saturday contests at Cheltenham, and Newbury (twice). She travels like a travelly-thing but in theory is rated 12lb inferior to our Mullins charge. Still, we might not have seen her ceiling yet.

Tremendous race in prospect.

15:20 - Doctor Steinberg @ 7/2

I've previewed this one in an accompanying piece and if you'd care to look at the rationale behind selecting Doctor Steinberg to win the Albert Bartlett, please click HERE.

16:00 - The Jukebox Man @ 7/2

In similar vein, I've popped a companion piece up looking at the Blue Riband event, the Cheltenham Gold Cup. For my thoughts on Harry Redknapp's brilliant eight-year-old The Jukebox Man, kindly click HERE.

Thanks again for your company this week - take care.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £520 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
