Cheltenham

The second and final day of Cheltenham's April Meeting takes place on Thursday afternoon - from 13:35-17:05 - with competitive and high-class fields the name of the day.

My Cheltenham tips includes Sainte Doctor, who bids for a fourth-straight victory in the 14:40.

14:10 - Sainte Doctor @ 4/1

There is bags of pace in the mares’ staying handicap chase at 14:10 with Happy d'Ex, Flintara, Lagonda, Another Day Out, Malaita and Minniemum all likely to try and get to the front and that could create a nice spot for a hold-up performer.

SAINTE DOCTOR got the better of Minniemum and Happy d'Ex at Ludlow 15 days ago, in a contest in which the beaten pair duelled for the lead.

Neil Mulholland’s charge was kept quiet at the back of the field by jockey Richie McLernon, before making smooth headway to win easily by seven lengths at the Shropshire venue.

That made it three wins on the bounce for the nine-year-old and, while that has resulted in a higher mark, the success at Ludlow was just about Sainte Doctor’s most impressive performance over fences.

There could well be more to come from the JP McManus-owned runner and the likely strong pace should suit the nine-year-old perfectly on Thursday afternoon.

14:45 - Greyval @ 10/1

GREYVAL scored her first success in handicap company when winning at Chepstow 32 days ago and the six-year-old can follow up in the mares’ handicap hurdle at 14:45.

Fergal O’Brien’s runner had Shantwopointfive, Pawapuri, Molto Bene and Ile De Jersey, who re-oppose at Cheltenham on Thursday afternoon, behind her in Wales and Greyval looks to have those rivals covered.

The six-year-old is a consistent and tough mare who seems best on decent ground over two-and-a-half-miles and that is exactly what Greyval gets at Cleeve Hill.

It’s a competitive race, but O’Brien’s charge should hold some each-way value.

14:45 Cheltenham - Winner Greyval

16:30 - Dromlac Jury @ 11/2

DROMLAC JURY was another horse to finish behind Greyval at Chepstow last time out and Tom Symonds’ mare now goes over the bigger obstacles in the mares’ handicap chase over two miles at 16:30.

A return to the minimum trip looks a good move for the six-year-old, who was too keen at Chepstow last time and was reappearing after an 85-day break.

That run should have taken some of the freshness out of the mare and she did look pretty threatening turning for home last time out.

Dromlac Jury carries a featherweight off a mark of just 97 on Thursday afternoon and she could prove a little better than that rating.
