Our Day 3 Lucky 15 tips are ready, as we prepare to enjoy Thursday's Festival action that has at its heart two fabulous Grade 1 heats - the Stayers' and the Ryanair. The supporting races are blue-chip, and we've had drama a-plenty already, totally unsurprisingly.

I've a feeling there's plenty more to come, so without further ado here we go - and the magic starts at 13:20.

Lucky 15 Tips - Thursday, March 13

  • 13:20 - Galileo Dame @ 4/1
  • 15:20 - Il Est Francais @ 11/4
  • 16:40 - Thecompanysergeant @ 15/2
  • 17:20 - Johnnywho @ 5/1

(odds are accurate at time of publication, and can fluctuate)

13:20 - Galileo Dame @ 4/1

I've previewed this cracking-looking mares' contest in a companion piece and come down firmly in favour of Joseph O'Brien's Galileo Dame. My thoughts on the race can be accessed right HERE.

15:20 - Il Est Francais @ 11/4

In similar fashion I've run the rule over a few in this fascinating renewal of the Ryanair Chase and I'm sweet on French raider Il Est Francais. Here's why - HERE.

16:40 - Thecompanysergeant @ 15/2

The Plate looks ultra-competitive, and we've a field of 20 scheduled to face the starter. Looks like fours-the-field territory or thereabouts to me; an ideal vehicle then for us, as today's L15 recommendation is for an each-way play.

Thecompanysergeant is a gelded eight-year-old son of Kayf Tara, a fantastic stayer for Godolphin on the flat over 25 years ago, and a wonderful National Hunt sire.

The selection has five wins from 22 career starts, and has recently joined Gavin Cromwell from the Denis Hogan yard. One run so far for new connections - a pipe-opening Navan handicap hurdle where he ran a fine race, beaten just 1.75l. That should have put him spot on for this and I've a feeling there's a big one in him all right - hopefully on Thursday.

17:20 - Johnnywho @ 5/1

Frankly an irresistible combination now - the amateurs take centre stage over the Gold Cup trip and JP McManus turns to his man for such occasions, the magnificent Mr Derek O'Connor. It's an added bonus that the trainer is one Jonjo O'Neill.

Johnnywho is a lightly-raced eight-year-old gelding who's had a few sizeable breaks along the way and last appeared in a Windsor G2 last time out, 53 days ago, finishing a distant third.

He picked up a Carlisle novice off 138 in October last, and has performed respectably, highly-tried in G2 company, at Newbury and Ascot in between. Racing off 140 today, and sure to have been prepared expertly by connections, I'm hoping for a bit of vintage Derek to pop those famous green-and-gold silks into the space reserved for the winner once again this week.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £490 for your total £7.50 stake.
