There are five meetings taking place in Britain and Ireland on Thursday with a quartet of jumps fixtures and a Flat fixture on the all-weather.

We concentrate on the evening meeting here on the level at Chelmsford where the seven-race card kicks off at 17.30 with a sprint handicap and concludes at 20.30.

We have a trio of selections on the card including a well handicapped sort who looks primed for a big run.

Thursday's Chelmsford Tips:

  • 17.30 Chelmsford - Twilight Madness @ 6/5
  • 18.00 Chelmsford - Dark Side Prince @ 7/2
  • 20.00 Chelmsford - Q Twenty Boy @ 6/4

17.30 Chelmsford - Twilight Madness @ 6/5

There are a couple of last-time-out winners in Chelmsford City’s opening contest but it might be worth taking a chance on TWILIGHT MADNESS who has been running well in defeat in recent starts.

The son of Twilight Son went close when beaten just a neck over this course and distance on his penultimate outing and he wasn’t beaten far again at Lingfield last time, despite getting outpaced after failing to set a strong enough gallop.

The selection is yet to gain a course win, despite having six wins on artificial surfaces to his name, but he’s yet to finish outside of the first three in any of those five runs here and he’s been beaten a length or less in four of those runs.

While he went up 1lb for his recent course effort, he’s still 3lb below his last winning mark and he remains feasibly treated on form from not so long ago.

The yard do well with their runners at this venue and the booking of an in-form jockey, Jason Hart, is another positive, particularly at this venue which he rides particularly well. He also has a 25% (2-8) strike-rate for the yard.

18.00 Chelmsford - Dark Side Prince @ 7/2

Another horse with some decent course form on the card is DARK SIDE PRINCE. He seemed to resent the fitting of a first-time tongue-tie when his form dipped at Southwell last time but he was running well in defeat prior to that run and he’s now on his lowest mark for well over two years.

A return to this venue could be the key given that he has two course and distance wins and three further placed efforts at this venue from eight attempts and he’s lurking 4lb below his last winning mark. A drop down in class is also in his favour and he should be able to get a position in the box seat from his ideal draw in stall one.

20.00 Chelmsford - Q Twenty Boy @ 6/4

Previous course and distance winner, Q TWENTY BOY, must have solid claims of getting another course success in the Classified Stakes later on the card.

He was only narrowly denied at Wolverhampton earlier this month and was in the winners’ enclosure at that venue last month.

He is one of very few that arrives in reasonable form in this contest and this is effectively a drop in class from handicap company.
