Chelmsford Tips: Legend to Star for Owen

There's a bumper eight-race card from Chelmsford on Thursday evening, with a Class 5 handicap over five furlongs the highlight of the Essex action.
I've studied the card and landed on three Chelmsford tips - including a dual-purpose type who returns to the all-weather and the scene of his last success.
Chelmsford Tips - Thursday, May 22
*odds correct at time of publication
17:50 - Star Legend @ 13/8
STAR LEGEND is one of five runners due to line up in the apprentice handicap over two miles at 17:50 and James Owen's charge looks ready to shine.
The six-year-old was last seen running a good race at Huntingdon on Tuesday when staying on to finish third after being carried across the track.
Of course, the run over timber was a completely different discipline, but Star Legend won a one-mile-six-furlong handicap at this track in March and this looks a perfect contest to strike.
Owen’s runner scored off a mark of 64 at the Essex venue and now has a rating of 65, which looks perfectly workable.
Talented apprentice Mason Paetel takes off 5lb for this race and Star Legend should shine bright.

19:50 - Smooth Silesie @ 7/2
SMOOTH SILESIE was only narrowly denied over five furlongs at Wolverhampton when last seen and the consistent performer can land a deserved success over the minimum trip at 19:50.
Lisa Williamson’s filly's last two visits to Chelmsford have yielded a victory and second-place finish, and while the four-year-old has been nudging up the handicap, she's an in-form performer and that can't be said for many of her rivals.
Top jockey Rossa Ryan takes over in the saddle for this race and it would be no surprise if the Irish rider bossed this contest from the front.

20:20 - Safari Dream @ 2/1
SAFARI DREAM cashed in on a heavily reduced mark at Salisbury last time out and Rob Millman’s charge can follow up in the six-furlong handicap at 20:20.
The five-year-old was once rated as high as 84 but will go to post for this race off a mark of just 69.
Millman's hope was handed an 8lb rise for his recent victory, but it was a cosy success, and the added burden may not be enough to stop the five-year-old.
Safari Dream ran well to finish third on his only previous visit to Chelmsford earlier this year and he appears to be returning to the track at close to the peak of his powers.
