Chelmsford city scaled

Amongst the seven scheduled meetings across Britain and Ireland on Thursday will be an evening card from Chelmsford. It's a nine-race offering from 16:00-20:15 at the Essex track, with a pair of three-year-old sprints providing the highlights of the night’s action.

An intriguing nursery debutant and a wily course veteran are part of the makeup of our three selections for what should be an entertaining evening’s racing. Read on for my Chelmsford Tips.

Chelmsford Tips - Thursday, October 16

  • 16:35 - American Flight @ 6/4
  • 17:10 - Don Pacifico @ 11/4
  • 18:15 - Revolutionise @ 11/1

16:35 - American Flight @ 7/4

George Boughey is a young trainer going places and he may have another intriguing nursery debutant in AMERICAN FLIGHT, who starts off at a lowly level in this Class 6 five-furling sprint.

The two-year old’s best effort was in her second start, which came at this track, as she finished fourth of eight.

On that day the daughter of Starspangledbanner faded late on so it’s no surprise to see her dropped to the minimum trip, especially after she produced a disappointing showing at Newbury over six furlongs last time out.

American Flight is bred to be better than the majority of these and with Billy Loughnane on board, she looks set to take a big leap forward and should go close.

17:10 - Don Pacifico @ 6/4

The first of two divisions of the 'Timeform Sprint Series Qualifier' is arguably the highlight of the night’s card with a number of extremely interesting contenders in the 10-runner race.

None more interesting, however, than DON PACIFICO, who could make a big impact for Simon and Ed Crisford.

The three-year-old may have not won a handicap yet but he has gone very close earlier in the season, including finishing half-a-length behind Abbey Heights at Wolverhampton in June.

The all-weather clearly suits this horse, whose only win came at Southwell, and he has been gelded since finishing midfield in a Class 3 event at Ascot in July.

If that draws out another extra bit of improvement from the son of Night of Thunder, then he has a very solid chance in this one.

18:15 - Revolutionise @ 11/1

There are not many sprinters who have danced as many dances as REVOLUTIONISE, who lines up for his 84th start in the seven-furlong handicap at 18:15.

The nine-year-old was a winner two starts ago at Brighton in August and is a three times course and distance scorer who is extremely well treated on old form.

The veteran raced off a mark of 93 once upon a time and could secure another win off this mark of 74 in this seven-runner affair, particularly with the plum draw in stall number one.
