Chelmsford tips: Arcadian Nights goes for eighth all-weather win

There’s an all-weather spectacular on Thursday evening with an eight-race card from Chelmsford and the Essex action gets underway at 17:00.

The Class 4 handicap over one-mile-and-two furlongs is the highlight of the meeting and the Mark Loughnane-trained Arcadian Nights could have a big say in proceedings.

18:00 - Star Pupil @ 4/6

Star Pupil received a mark of 74 when winning a six furlong novice stakes at Wolverhampton last April and that rating has tumbled down to 61 just nine months later.

Of course, Richard Hughes’ charge has put in some disappointing efforts, which has caused the handicap rating to fall, but there were definite signs of a revival at Lingfield last time out.

Star Pupil stayed on at the one pace to finish third in a 0-68 handicap at the Surrey venue and the four-year-old was dropped a pound for that effort.

The switch to away from a speed-oriented venue such as Lingfield looks a good move and, while there are only five runners in this field, there is pace in the race with Gone Rogue often making the running.

Star Pupil is still fairly unexposed having had only eight career starts and the four-year-old looks a decent bet to strike for jockey Finley Marsh.

18:30 - Jesse Luc @ 7/4

Jesse Luc scored with authority over course and distance five days ago and the Mike Murphy-trained runner looks a bet to follow up in the classified stakes at 18:30.

The five-year-old travelled easily the best, before making smooth headway in the last furlong to win comfortably in the same grade five days ago and the son of Brazen Beau looked well capable of landing another classified race.

Jesse Luc was once rated 60, suggesting that the five-year-old is a little better than this standard of race, and there is plenty to like about Murphy's charge at 18:30.

20:00 - Arcadian Nights @ 10/3

Arcadian Nights is a seven-time all-weather winner making his Chelmsford debut in the one-mile-and-two-furlong handicap at 20:00.

It’s clear to see that the seven-year-old is at home on an artificial surface and it’s possible he may have more to offer at the Essex venue.

The Mark Loughnane-trained runner is down to a rating of 79, just one pound higher than his last winning mark and only two pounds above when running an excellent second at Wolverhampton in October.

Arcadian Nights looks a bet to make it eight all-weather wins here.
