Here is a horse who the casual punter, along with the long-time lover of the sport, can root for in the 2025 Aintree Grand National. Chantry House has enjoyed a superb career. He has tasted victory at the Cheltenham Festival, we’ve seen him cross the line first at Aintree at the Grand National meeting and several other big races along the way. The biggest issue is we have to go back to 2021 to see this horse consistently at the front of the race.

Yet hope springs eternal, and for one afternoon just this January we saw that form is temporary but class is permanent as Chantry House shocked his trainer by going and winning a good quality race at Cheltenham. The plan had been for it to just be a bit of a warm-up and go hunter chasing with him in 2025 but victory - when going off at 8/1 - saw a bit of a rethink from Nicky Henderson and his connections, and that is how we landed here.

Later in January he was sent out again in the Cotswold Chase but was unable to return to former glories in a race he’d previously won. That was on a tighter three-week turnaround and since then he’s been freshened up to have a surprising tilt at the Grand National.

That win back in January was the first time he’d tasted victory in three years, and in that period only once had we seen him even place. Expecting another vintage performance after only seeing one really good run in over 1,000 days seems like a bit of wishful thinking, but there is no better time for that than the Grand National.

Likely to go off at 100/1 or longer and undoubtedly as one of the outsiders, if he can be there or thereabouts, there wouldn’t be too many more popular contenders than Chantry House.
