Flat racing takes place at Catterick on Wednesday afternoon between 14.20 and 17.20 with a seven-race card.

The outstanding Hollie Doyle has an interesting book of rides and is unlikely to leave North Yorkshire empty-handed.

Catterick Selections

  • Noo Point – 15.50 @ 7/2
  • Wade’s Magic – 16.50 @ 10/3

Noo Point – 15.50 Catterick @ 7/2

A 7f Class 4 nursery, and our selection is one for the old firm of Archie and Hollie – namely Watson and Doyle.

Trainer Watson is a master with juveniles, and Hollie Doyle has ridden so many of them in the past. This particular son of Blue Point has run on 4 occasions thus far, including a bold tilt at a Listed contest abroad. His form is progressive, and from a mark of 85 was just touched off at Epsom last time over this 7f trip.

It was his first try at it, and his sire attempted it once, in the Dewhurst no less, finishing a close-up third in 2016. This isn’t a Grade One however, and hopefully Hollie can nurture his stamina.

The likely soft ground is something to ponder, sure, but again his sire encountered it the odd time and won on good to soft at Ascot, over 6f.

Wade’s Magic – 16.50 @ 10/3

One of two Tim Easterby runners – a trainer in rude form of late in contests just like this.

A 6f soft-ground handicap in the basement Class 6 grade, so we’re not talking high levels of ability – but our selection is at least consistent in this sphere. Ran well to be 2nd, claimer-ridden, at Pontefract off a mark of 53 just 11 days ago.

Same mark today, and regular senior pilot David Allan is back on top. Runs at either 5f or 6f with seemingly equal facility, and though I’d prefer good to soft over soft, that consistency, course-and-distance expertise and general experience can pay dividends.
