Catterick races

There is a bumper eight-race card at Catterick on Thursday on what promises to be a cracking afternoon of racing at the North Yorkshire track.

The feature race is the Class 4 fillies handicap at 16.40 and the unexposed Lokana looks to have a real chance of sealing back-to-back wins.

Catterick Betting Tips

  • 14:40 Modular Magic @ 9/1
  • 16:40 Lokana @ 9/4
  • 17:50 Langholm @ 9/4

14:40 Modular Magic @ 9/1

The first handicap on the card comes at 14.40 and it’s a low grade 0-60 event over 5f.

Modular Magic has tumbled down the ratings from a career-peak of 82 to a mark of 57 and there was enough encouragement in his run at Ayr 21 days ago to suggest the seven-year-old could be about to strike.

Jim Goldie’s charge finished fifth of ten over the minimum trip at the Scottish venue, but the sprinter was only beaten two and a quarter lengths and the vet reported Modular Magic lost a shoe on that occasion.

That was his first run on turf since August and there could be further improvement to come for a yard that has been in good form.

16:40 Lokana @ 9/4

The feature 7f fillies’ handicap can go to the in-form Lokana.

David O'Meara’s unexposed three-year-old was seriously impressive when landing a fillies’ maiden at Thirsk 19 days ago and there should be more to come on her handicap debut.

The Thirsk victory was an encouraging return for Lokana on the back of a promising campaign at two, which included third-placed finishes at Ascot and Leicester in fillies’ novice company.

Lokana bossed the race from the front when scoring last time, tactics that are well suited to Catterick, and this looks a top opportunity for her to gain another win.

17:50 Langholm @ 9/4

Langholm is a two-time course-and-distance winner and been placed 13 times from 20 starts at the North Yorkshire track.

Michael Dods’ runner has run four cracking races on turf this season without getting his head in front, but the 7f handicap at 17.50 looks very winnable and Langholm looks a bet to shine at Catterick again.
