Brighton racecourse

There's a seven-race card, running from 14:15-17:20, by the seaside at Brighton on Tuesday afternoon and there's plenty of punting interest.

I've got three Brighton tips for you to consider, including one for Harry Charlton in the most lucrative race of the day.

Brighton Tips

  • 14:15 - Jacquelina @ 9/4
  • 16:15 - Magical Merlin @ 6/1
  • 17:20 - Heavenly Fire @ 9/1

14:15 - Jacquelina @ 9/4

It’s going to be worth keeping an eye on conditions at Brighton on Tuesday with rain set to fall on ground currently described as ‘good, good to soft in places’.

The opening race on the south coast card is a five-and-a-half furlong 0-60 handicap and JACQUELINA can follow up her course and distance victory of seven days ago under a five pound penalty.

Phil McEntee’s charge is bidding for a hat-trick after previously scoring on heavy ground over the minimum trip at Windsor earlier this month and the five-year-old arrives at Brighton in red-hot form.

A five-pound rise doesn’t look enough to stop Jacquelina following her snug success last week and any deterioration in conditions won’t be an issue for the progressive mare.

16:15 - Magical Merlin @ 6/1

MAGICAL MERLIN finished down the field on his comeback run at Haydock earlier this month, but that was certainly needed and it should put the four-year-old spot on for this seven-furlong handicap.

Harry Charlton’s runner ran two good races at Epsom and Newmarket at the end of last season, without getting his head in front, but the son of Kodiac has left the impression that there could be more to come.

He has twice previously performed well at Epsom, suggesting the downhill undulations of Brighton will suit and Magical Merlin can pull a trick on his rivals and score.

17:20 - Heavenly Fire @ 9/1

The final race on the card is a seven-furlong handicap for three-year-olds and it can go the way of HEAVENLY FIRE.

Jack Jones’ runner showed promise on debut at Lingfield as a two-year-old, before failing to build on that effort in two subsequent maiden runs.

The daughter of Harry Angel was sent off a 13/2 chance on handicap debut on soft ground at Doncaster last month, suggesting that better was expected from the three-year-old, but an awkward start saw her playing catch up throughout the race.

Clearly, improvement is needed, but that looks entirely possible off a mark of 63 and any rain is likely to boost the chances of Heavenly Fire.
