It’s off to the seaside for a six-race card from Brighton on Thursday afternoon. The south coast action is highlighted by a Class 5 handicap at 16:35 where Kranjcar looks set to score another course success.

Below you can find my Brighton Tips for Thursday, May 8.

15:25 - Clipsham Noble @ 8/1

Clipsham Noble caught the eye when running over course and distance nine days ago and Alice Haynes’ runner can take the one-mile-two-furlong handicap at 15:25.

The three-year-old fluffed the start on the south coast last week, but the gelding looked the biggest threat to the winner a couple of furlongs from home.

The exertions of making ground following the tardy beginning clearly took their toll, but the run suggested there was room for manoeuvre off a basement mark of 45.

This afternoon’s contest certainly isn’t the strongest race ever run at Brighton and Clipsham Noble could get his head in front.

16:00 - Sawgrass @ 5/1

There was a little bit of money around for Sawgrass on handicap debut at this track last time out and that could be a clue that there is potential off a mark of only 52.

The Hughie Morrison-trained runner was sent off at massive prices in a trio of maiden runs, but the four-year-old returned 13/2 on handicap debut and there was clearly some confidence.

It was a disappointing effort 26 days ago, but Sawgrass looked outpaced on the downhill track and a step up to one-mile-and-four-furlongs looks like a good move.

At a decent price, in a race where Betfred pays three places, a chance can be taken on an improved showing from Sawgrass.

16:35 - Kranjcar @ 5/6

The seven-furlong handicap at 16:35 certainly isn’t a top-level contest, but Kranjcar has looked a pretty progressive horse in a low grade this season and George Boughey’s charge can score at Brighton again.

The four-year-old triumphed over course and distance eight days ago and that success followed a second-placed finish over six furlongs at the south coast venue.

Clearly, Boughey’s runner has been nudged up by the handicapper, but Kranjcar scored with more ease than the winning margin suggested last time out and a five-pound penalty may not stop the gelding.

The four-year-old has raced only five times on turf and there looks to be a fair chance that there may be more to come.

It’s a step up in class for Boughey’s charge in this race, but it’s not exactly a bunch of in-form rivals in opposition and Kranjcar can score.
