Twenty-four hours after the colts, it's the turn of the fillies to chase Classic glory in the Betfred 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday (15:35).

I've studied the race and landed on a couple of Betfred 1000 Guineas tips - one to win and the other each-way.

Desert Flower was an outstanding two-year-old and it's hard to ignore the bullishness of her trainer Charlie Appleby heading into the Betfred 1000 Guineas, but I have no interest in backing her at odds-on.

There's been just one winning favourite - Aidan O'Brien's Minding back in 2016 - in the last 10 renewals and five of the other winners in that timeframe were sent off double-figure prices.

The rate at which these horses, especially fillies, improve from two to three is unpredictable, hence the amount of 'shocks' in the race.

With that in mind, I'm happy to let Desert Flower do the business at the prices.

O'Brien's Lake Victoria is the obvious danger to the favourite, but I'm siding with RED LETTER for Ger Lyons.

The Juddmonte-owned daughter of Frankel was just touched off by the former on debut at the Curragh last summer, before bolting up back over course and distance.

Then, in September, she finished fourth, a length-and-a-half behind Lake Victoria on this occasion, in the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes.

Clearly, there's not much to separate the pair and the selection is still very unexposed going into Newmarket - completely so over a mile or further. I'm sure she'll relish the step up in trip.

Lyons set his stall out very early with this filly, waxing lyrical about her back in March, and I'm hopeful of a bold bid.

As an each-way alternative, I couldn't put anyone off Saeed bin Suroor's once-raced ELWATEEN.

The Dubawi filly was victorious on her sole start last year, on the all-weather at Kempton, beating a horse of George Boughey's who's since won twice and earned a rating of 89. The rest of the field were over two-and-three-quarter lengths adrift.

That's strong form for a debut effort and while she lacks experience, she could be absolutely anything and it's fascinating she takes her chance in the lineup instead of going elsewhere for an easier assignment.

Her trainer has won the Betfred 1000 Guineas three times, including two years ago with Mawj, and his runner warrants plenty of respect.
