Ayr racecourse

With six British and Irish meetings taking place across Wednesday, there's lots of racing action to cater to all tastes. Among it will be the Flat card from Ayr, where they have seven races from 14:20-17:30.

I've picked out a trio of Ayr tips, including one for trainer David Menuisier who sends one horse on the lengthy 905-mile round trip to Ayr which could be a tip in itself.

15:20 – Heartache Tonight @ 4/1

Fresh off the back of Devil's Point winning the German 2,000 Guineas in Cologne on Monday, trainer David Menuisier sends one horse all the way up to Ayr from his base in Newmarket, which is a 905-mile round trip.

HEARTACHE TONIGHT boasts strong credentials in the 1m2f Listed Fitzdares British EBF Rothesay Stakes, a contest for fillies and mares. The filly's sole success came in a 1m1f Longchamp maiden on debut in 2022, but she has participated in some hot contests since.

Not beaten far when fourth in the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp last May, she didn't handle the track when down the field in the Epsom Oaks. In need of the run when fourth in the Dahlia at Newmarket last month, this represents a drop in class and it's a great chance to get her head back in front.

15:50 – Nikovo @ 3/1

Moving on swiftly to the following mile handicap on the card, where local handler Jim Goldie bids to land a four-timer with the progressive Kelpie Grey. However, the handicapper might have his measure now.

With that in mind, it might pay to side with David O'Meara's NIKOVO, who has won two of his three starts since having wind surgery after leaving Archie Watson.

Both of those victories came on the all-weather, but the son of Kingman should have won at Leicester too last time when bidding for a hat-trick, short of room at a crucial stage. He's well up to winning from this mark.

17:30 – Balqaa @ 15/2

The final selection of the day will run in the closing mile apprentice handicap, and if BALQAA can transfer her recent all-weather form across to turf, the mare has major claims for trainer Stella Barclay.

A horse who likes to be ridden with restraint, she was a fast finisher when third over this trip at Newcastle latest, and with plenty of pace on here, if she can get cover early she will be finishing off her race to very good effect.

Balqaa can be keen enough sometimes, so getting that early cover will be absolutely crucial. She also has to prove she's as good on turf as she has disappointed on grass in the past, but she's well worth giving another chance at this level.

Balqaa to win the 17. 30 ayr at 15-2
