Ayr Tips: De Legislator to lay down the law

There is top-class jumps action to enjoy from Ayr on Wednesday, with six races taking place at the Scottish track between 13:15 and 15:50. We are at the time of year where Cheltenham is prominent in trainers’ minds, so it is notable that there is a potential Brown Advisory contender heading to Ayr on Wednesday.
He is likely to go off at a short price, however, so we have swerved that five-runner race, as well as the two after it, to focus on the first three contests and pick out two strong fancies and an each-way play for the early Ayr action.
Ayr Tips - Wednesday, November 12
13:15 - De Legislator @ 5/2
Lucinda Russell has a number of intriguing contenders throughout the card - including potential Brown Advisory contender Derryhassen Paddy in the fourth - and the queen of Ayr could get off to the perfect start thanks to DE LEGISLATOR.
The son of Shirocco will face stiff competition from Busty Boy and Breeze Of Wind, but he is taken to just get the nod as he still looks ahead of the handicapper, with a 4lb rise following an impressive staying win over 3m at Wetherby looking manageable.
That Wetherby success came on soft ground, meaning conditions should suit at Ayr, where he already has his desired going and with more rain on the way.
That should also bring Stretchmeout into the equation - great news for each-way punters. Gordon Elliott’s mare has struggled since an October win at Sligo, but her point-to-point success came on heavy ground, suggesting she could go well at a big price.

13:45 - She’s Notjoeking @ 10/1
Russell may not have to wait long before more prize money, either, as SHE’S NOTJOEKING looks a big price to make the frame in the second race of the day.
The daughter of Milan is another who has struggled to make a recent impact, last winning in April 2024 and failing to do so since handicapping.
However, her mark is now 95, 6lb lower than her starting weight, she has only finished outside the top three on one of her four starts on soft ground and won her sole effort on heavy.
Given Russell’s sensational Ayr record - she has had 50 winners at the Scottish track since 2021 - She’s Notjoeking looks a big price, especially with Betfred playing an extended four places.

14:20 - Captain Butler @ 6/5
Don’t worry if you were sensing a theme, the Russell propaganda stops here as CAPTAIN BUTLER looks the standout contender in the third.
The son of Mount Nelson caught the eye when winning a Newcastle bumper and Kelso maiden in two runs between May 2023 and December 2024, landing a spot in a Grade 2 Premier Hurdle at the second of those tracks.
Understandably, that proved too hot to handle as he finished a 17-length fifth of nine, but a significant drop to a Class 4 Handicap should see him in a far better light on his first run for new trainer Ruth Jefferson.
