Ayr Racecourse

With five British and Irish meetings taking place across Tuesday, there's lots of racing action to cater for all tastes. Amongst it will be the Flat card from Ayr, where they have seven races from 18:30-21:00 on ground forecast to be 'good, good to firm in places'.

For my Ayr tips, I've picked out a trio to follow at the Scottish venue, including one for David O'Meara who should have the class to win on his return after an absence.

Ayr Tips

  • 18:30 – Rawaasi @ 13/8
  • 19:30 – Zarzyni @ 5/1
  • 21:00 – Knights Affair @ 11/4

18:30 – Rawaasi @ 13/8

RAWAASI has the most exposed profile of all the runners in the opening 6f maiden fillies' stakes, but Simon & Ed Crisford's Blue Point filly can put her experience to good use and finally get off the mark.

Very expensive to follow in her career to date, she has gone off no bigger than 10/3 in her five career starts. Three times sent off favourite, including when last seen going off an 8/11 chance at Bath in October, she comes with obvious risks attached.

Nonetheless, with an official rating of 79, she is going to prove difficult to beat. The yard doesn't send many this far north but when they do it's worth noting as the sole horse they sent to Ayr last year won. It would be no shock if she was strong in the betting again and this time she can oblige.

19:30 – Zarzyni @ 5/1

The last time ZARZYNI ran at this track was when he took his chance in the Ayr Gold Cup in 2022 where he was far from disgraced off a mark of 104, and although he doesn't have that level of ability now, he could be thrown in off his current mark of just 79.

Trained by David & Nicola Barron, the seven-year-old has been a great servant to connections, and in his prime, he was placed at Group 3 level.

Zarzyni went very close on the all-weather at Newcastle in March when beaten a short-head and if he can translate that form back on grass, he has to enter the reckoning from a very workable mark.

21:00 – Knights Affair @ 11/4

Trainer David O'Meara is no stranger to success around this track, and in the closing 1m5f handicap, KNIGHTS AFFAIR should take all the beating if he is fit and ready to go after a break.

The son of Bated Breath chased home the now 92-rated Kathab when runner-up on debut at Ripon last July, a piece of form alone that should make him well-handicapped off his current rating of 67.

Knights Affair disappointed on his handicap debut off this mark over 1m2f at Doncaster in September before running well in a Southwell maiden when last seen. This step up in trip could unlock the required improvement and this is a race that won't take much winning, so he ought to go well.
