Australia, who tasted success in this race with Choisir (2003) and Black Caviar (2012), haven't been represented in either of the last two renewals, but they're double-handed in Saturday's race courtesy of King Charles III Stakes third Overpass and exceptional mare JOLIESTAR.

The latter, trained by the legendary Chris Waller, is clear favourite with most firms at 2/1 and deservedly so, having won five times at the highest level previously. Indeed, she comes here at the peak of her powers following a pair of Group 1 victories at Randwick on her last two starts.

She's surprisingly only the joint fourth highest rated in the field, but there's a strong suspicion that her official mark of 115 underestimates her, especially when noting her past two performances which have earned her Racing Post Ratings of 121.

Horse Racing Odds

New Zealander Waller was on target with Nature Strip in the 2022 King’s Stand Stakes (now the King Charles III Stakes) and recently described his five-year-old mare as "good as anything in the world at the moment".

She'll be in receipt of a very handy 3lb sex allowance and James McDonald, one of the best riders around, has won seven of the 12 races he's partnered her in.

Overpass ran a rock-solid race to finish third in the King Charles III Stakes on Wednesday and a quick turnaround is of no major concern. He should be there or thereabouts, though he's on a losing run of eight and has a habit of finding one or two too good.

Japanese raider SATONO REVE went down by just half-a-length to Lazzat in last year's race and has to enter calculations.

The seven-year-old looked as good as ever when landing the Grade 1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen at Chukyo in March and lost nothing in defeat behind the sensational Ka Ying Rising at Sha Tin in April. Ryan Moore takes the ride.

Andre Fabre's Sajir is another worthy of consideration, particularly if returning to the sort of form that saw him defeat Lazzat in last season’s Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

He's versatile in terms of trip and won his only start in Britain, the Group 3 Abernant Stakes in April last year. Regular pilot Oisin Murphy is again in the saddle.

Regional looks the pick of the British contingent, Ed Bethell's charge having finished placed in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes in both 2024 and 2025.

I was impressed by the performance of William Haggas' Lake Forest at Haydock last month, the five-year-old producing a career-best in terms of Racing Post Ratings. However, that was over 7f and this drop back to 6f is a big concern.
