Appreciate it

If you are looking for a horse coming into the Grand National on the back of victory then Appreciate It might be the one for you. The fact that it was his first victory in two years, however, is quite the big caveat to that statement.

Can he make it back-to-back winners on Saturday? Let’s delve into his recent form and take a look at Appreciate It’s Grand National Odds…

We should start with the positive. Yes, Appreciate It won last time out. It was a return to form that will give his supporters hope that the best might still be yet to come. Pulling clear to win by six lengths, many are pointing to the good ground as a reason for the improved performance and if so, that could well work to his advantage heading into the Grand National as rain has been scarce up here in the north west over recent weeks.

Those who have liked this horse will keep harking back to 2021 and that absolutely dominating performance in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Leading by 15 lengths jumping the last, he would ease a further nine clear by the line and seemed to signal that a budding star was about to explode onto the jumps scene. That, though, hasn’t been the case.

In 2022, Willie Mullins decided that the Champion Hurdle was the race to aim for at the Cheltenham Festival. He went off as the 100/30 second-favourite behind the wonderful Honeysuckle and was leading late and still very much in contention two out. His stamina, though, was lacking as he weakened and would go to finish only sixth, and that has been a question mark that he’s struggled to shake off.

It isn’t as though he’s been doing nothing in the past couple of seasons. Appreciate It has placed seven times across 2023 and 2024, including splitting Fastorslow and Galopin Des Champs in the 2023 John Durkan at Punchestown. When you are running in company such as that and being competitive, it would be foolish to write off his chances.

Under the tutelage of Willie Mullins, you know that he’ll be ready and this is one of those big prices that profiles as a very popular each-way play. There is a very good horse here and if he brings his ‘A’ game then there is every chance that he runs well and gets among the places.
