As Quail Hollow prepares to host the PGA Tour’s top players for the Truist Championship in North Carolina, a weaker – but perhaps more intriguing – alternate field will tee it up at Dunes Golf & Beach Club in South Carolina for the Myrtle Beach Classic – the second half of this week’s PGA Tour double-header.

Our golf tipster Jamie Worsley is back with five more each-way picks this week, so let's check out his Myrtle Beach Classic 2026 Betting Tips here at Betfred Insights...

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Myrtle Beach Classic debuted on the PGA Tour in 2024 as an alternate-field event held opposite the Truist Championship. Each edition has been held at Dunes Golf & Beach Club.

Previous winners:

  • 2025

Winner: Ryan Fox (-15)

Runners-up: Harry Higgs, Mackenzie Hughes (-15)

  • 2024

Winner: Chris Gotterup (-22)

Runners-up: Alistair Docherty, Davis Thompson (-16)

THE COURSE

Dunes Golf & Beach Club

  • Original architect / Year opened: Robert Trent Jones / 1948
  • Latest renovation: Trent Jones's son Rees has renovated it several times over the last two decades, most recently in 2023
  • Previous tournaments: General Hackler Championship (2015-present, amateur event), Southern Amateur (1988, 2005, 2016)
  • Par / Yardage: Par 71 / 7,347 yards
  • Hole breakdown:
    • 4x par 3s (170-219 yards)
    • 11x par 4s (375-500 yards)
    • 3x par 5s (532-625 yards)
  • Course style: A rolling parkland course with imposing white sand bunkers and pine/oak trees framing most holes
  • Fairways:
    • The predominantly doglegging fairways are narrow-to-average in width
    • Strategically placed bunkers sit at the angles of the doglegs, tightening the landing areas
    • Although with non-penal rough, the course hasn't severely punished inaccurate driving thus far
  • Greens:
    • Average-sized (6,000 sq. ft.) bermudagrass greens
    • These elevated surfaces are strongly contoured and fast if weather allows
    • Deep greenside bunkers can make it difficult to get it up and down
  • Defences:
    • There are numerous water hazards, with marshes, ponds and lakes coming into play on six holes
    • Closeness to the coast means wind could be a factor
  • Average winning score: -18.5 (two editions)

Located in South Carolina's Grand Strand – an area famed for its abundance of golf courses – The Dunes has provided a firm but fair test in this alternate event, with just one player exceeding 16-under-par.

Potential birdie chances are often offset by smart bunkering and water hazards, and if those greens can get up to speed, it will add another dimension of difficulty this week.

THE WEATHER

As with last year, bright and clear weather makes way for thunderstorms at the start of the event, carrying up to 14mm of rain on Thursday. That will leave us with a receptive course and with largely dry, calm (with wind speeds of 8-10mph) conditions thereafter, players should be able to take advantage.

KEY STATS

SG: Off-the-Tee (SG: OTT) / Driving Distance

With a lack of rough here meaning contenders aren't unduly punished for a missed fairway, it's no surprise that quality, long drivers have littered each leaderboard.

  • 2025
    • Ryan Fox (Winner): 4th in SG: OTT
    • Harry Higgs (2nd): 7th in SG: OTT / 10th in driving distance
    • Kevin Yu (4th): 11th in SG: OTT / 11th in driving distance
    • Niklas Norgaard (5th): 4th in driving distance
    • Five of the top six ranked inside the top 25 in driving distance
  • 2024
    • Chris Gotterup (Winner): 9th in driving distance
    • Alistair Docherty (2nd): 4th in SG: OTT / 2nd in driving distance
    • Davis Thompson (2nd): 8th in SG: OTT / 17th in driving distance
    • Kevin Yu (4th): 2nd in SG: OTT / 10th in driving distance
    • Ryan Fox (4th): 5th in SG: OTT / 3rd in driving distance
    • Beau Hossler (4th): 12th in SG: OTT
    • Erik Van Rooyen (4th): 11th in driving distance

SG: Approach / Greens-in-Regulation (GIR) / Proximity from 125-200 yards

Approach play has been another vital component, especially with the mid-to-long irons. This should be even more significant into these rain-softened greens.

  • 2025
    • Ryan Fox (Winner): 16th in SG: Approach / 12th in GIR
    • Harry Higgs (2nd): 14th in SG: Approach / 4th in GIR
    • Kevin Yu (4th): 6th in SG: Approach / 3rd in GIR
    • Alex Smalley (5th): 13th in SG: Approach
    • Niklas Norgaard (5th): 12th in GIR
  • 2024
    • Chris Gotterup (Winner): 5th in SG: Approach / 13th in GIR
    • Davis Thompson (2nd): 6th in SG: Approach / 15th in GIR
    • Alistair Docherty (2nd): 4th in GIR
    • Ryan McCormick (4th): 8th in SG: Approach
    • Jorge Campillo (4th): 10th in SG: Approach

SG: Putting (bermudagrass)

Lastly, the putting surfaces have been the toughest aspect of play here in the last two years, and we should pay close attention to players proven on undulating bermudagrass surfaces.

  • 2025
    • Mackenzie Hughes (2nd): 2nd in SG: Putting
    • Harry Higgs (2nd): 4th in SG: Putting
  • 2024
    • Chris Gotterup (Winner): 3rd in SG: Putting
    • Alistair Docherty (2nd): 2nd in SG: Putting
    • Erik Van Rooyen (4th): 4th in SG: Putting
    • Beau Hossler (4th): 5th in SG: Putting
    • Jorge Campillo (4th): 6th in SG: Putting
    • Ryan Fox (4th): 8th in SG: Putting
    • Ryan McCormick (4th): 9th in SG: Putting

CORRELATING EVENTS (COURSES)

Sanderson Farms Championship (Country Club of Jackson)

As a gently rolling tree-lined course with narrow fairways that lack penalty for missing, the Country Club of Jackson is a standout comp here. It ranks closely to The Dunes in tee-to-green difficulty and also has bermudagrass greens of a similar size.

Notable correlating form:

  • Mackenzie Hughes: Myrtle Beach (2nd) / Sanderson Farms (1st)
  • Kevin Yu: Myrtle Beach (4th, 4th) / Sanderson Farms (1st)
  • Beau Hossler: Myrtle Beach (4th) / Sanderson Farms (2nd)
  • Alex Smalley: Myrtle Beach (5th) / Sanderson Farms (5th)
  • Hayden Buckley: Myrtle Beach (7th) / Sanderson Farms (4th)
  • Mark Hubbard: Myrtle Beach (7th) / Sanderson Farms (5th, 6th)

John Deere Classic (TPC Deere Run)

There has been plenty of crossover form with TPC Deere Run across these two renewals. It's another tree-lined venue where players aren't harshly penalised for missing fairways, and at which the mid-to-long irons carry the most importance.

Notable correlating form:

  • Chris Gotterup: Myrtle Beach (1st) / John Deere (4th)
  • Davis Thompson: Myrtle Beach (2nd) / John Deere (1st)
  • Kevin Yu: Myrtle Beach (4th, 4th) / John Deere (6th)
  • Alex Smalley: Myrtle Beach (5th) / John Deere (2nd)
  • Mark Hubbard: Myrtle Beach (7th) / John Deere (6th)

RSM Classic (Sea Island Resort)

Situated down the coastline in Georgia, the Sea Island Resort works well. They share similar averages in tee-to-green difficulty, and both require players to lean heavily on their approach play from 125-200 yards.

Notable correlating form:

  • Mackenzie Hughes: Myrtle Beach (2nd) / RSM Classic (1st, 2nd, 2nd)
  • Alex Smalley: Myrtle Beach (5th) / RSM Classic (5th)
  • Sami Valimaki: Myrtle Beach (7th) / RSM Classic (1st)
  • Rico Hoey: Myrtle Beach (7th) / RSM Classic (7th)

Bermuda Championship (Port Royal Golf Course)

Last up is Bermuda Championship host Port Royal Golf Course, which has developed eye-catching comp form with this week's host. Again, we have a coastal course with bermudagrass greens and fairways that are tricky to find.

Notable correlating form:

  • Harry Higgs: Myrtle Beach (2nd) / Bermuda (2nd)
  • Kevin Yu: Myrtle Beach (4th, 4th) / Bermuda (3rd)
  • Alex Smalley: Myrtle Beach (5th) / Bermuda (3rd)
  • Mark Hubbard: Myrtle Beach (7th) / Bermuda (3rd)
  • Matti Schmid: Myrtle Beach (7th) / Bermuda (3rd)

THE FIELD

The event has attracted a decent field for this type of contest, including two of the world's top 50 and 18 of the top 100. England's Marco Penge and Aaron Rai are the top-ranked players, sat 39th and 42nd respectively, though the eye is of course drawn to five-time major champion Brooks Koepka.

Seven of the 10 players who earned their card via the DP World Tour in 2025 will tee it up; the fourth-ranked player on the DPWT this year, Casey Jarvis, has received a tournament invite; and 18-year-old talent Blades Brown returns after finishing 26th and 37th in the first two editions.

SELECTIONS

Market leaders (1/4 5 places): Brooks Koepka 14/1, Davis Thompson 14/1, Marco Penge 18/1, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen 22/1, Rasmus Hojgaard 22/1

1.5 pts Matti Schmid each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 30/1

Matti Schmid has been knocking on the door for his first PGA Tour win for a couple of years and I'm taking him to finally break through this week. He's currently hitting the ball well after an underwhelming start to the season and, having performed strongly here both as an amateur and a pro, it looks like an ideal opportunity for the German.

Missing three of his first six cuts and failing to record a single top-40, Schmid suddenly burst into life at the Cognizant Classic back in March, finishing 9th. He was then 5th in Puerto Rico and hasn't missed a cut since, arriving off the back of a 10th-place finish at the Zurich Classic where he was the driving force in his pairing with Seamus Power.

His ball striking has engineered this turnaround in form, ranking 12th in SG: Approach and 39th in SG: OTT in this field across the last two-and-a-bit months. He's also inside the top 10 in driving distance and continuing to putt soundly, positives are easy to find.

Schmid played in the General Hackler Championship at The Dunes three times as an amateur, finishing 13th in 2019, 36th in 2020 and 44th in 2021. He then finished 7th in this event last year, and as a player who has a 3rd-place finish in Bermuda alongside two top-20s at the Sanderson Farms Championship, I'm expecting him to go close.

1.25 pts Adrien Dumont De Chassart each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 35/1

Next up is Schmid’s European neighbour Adrien Dumont De Chassart, who has looked much more comfortable during his second season on the PGA Tour. As a long hitter who sits among the top tee-to-green performers in the field, the talented Belgian is primed to contend.

De Chassart has missed just two cuts in 10 appearances this campaign and picked up four top-25s. His standout result came at the Houston Open, where he finished 12th, and he heads to the east coast after finishing 17th alongside Davis Chatfield at the Zurich Classic.

He ranks 29th in SG: T2G season-long and is gaining strokes both in approach and with the driver. The mid-to-long irons have been sharp and, having found some accuracy to complement his ranking of 34th in driving distance, the long game is in decent shape.

De Chassart finished 40th around this layout on debut in 2024 but missed the cut on his return last year. That said, encouragement can be drawn from a 3rd-place finish in Bermuda in 2024 – his best result yet on the PGA Tour.

Now three years on from winning the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Korn Ferry Tour – another event held in South Carolina – on his first pro start, this former No. 9 amateur has the tools to make the leap into the PGA Tour’s winner’s circle.

1.25 pts Max McGreevy each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 35/1

I’m going to deviate temporarily from those power players to the more accuracy-dependent Max McGreevy. He’s been rock solid this season and producing the second-best tee-to-green numbers of those in attendance, he can turn that consistency into a victory this week.

Teeing it up on 12 occasions, McGreevy has had a busy season thus far, with just the one top-20 in Houston feeling scant reward for his overall performances. Although, he has only missed three cuts and has finished 40th or better a further five times.

As mentioned, he ranks 2nd in this field in SG: T2G in 2026 and whilst he’s driven it well, ranking 14th, it’s with the irons he’s excelled, sitting 5th in SG: Approach. He’s also 23rd in GIR and, with the mid-to-long irons doing much of the heavy lifting, ranking 23rd from 175-200 yards and 38th from 150-175, he should relish hitting into these soft greens.

Despite collecting five wins worldwide, including three on the Korn Ferry Tour, McGreevy hasn’t yet managed to transfer that habit to the PGA Tour. He did show promise here last year when finishing 45th and, having delivered two of his standout results at this level at correlating events last year (2nd at the RSM Classic and 3rd at the Bermuda Championship), he has every chance of going close in South Carolina.

1 pt Steven Fisk each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 45/1

Earning a breakthrough win in the Sanderson Farms Championship at the end of 2025, the powerful Steven Fisk is an appealing fit for this test. He proved this during an encouraging debut effort last year, and with his season slowly coming to the boil following a stuttering start, he looks a danger at The Dunes.

Fisk failed to make the weekend in his first three events of the season but has only missed one further cut in seven subsequent starts. That run of results culminated in a season’s best 12th-place finish at the RBC Heritage on his latest appearance, and I’m hoping he can build on that here.

Ranking 6th in GIR, 21st in SG: OTT and 29th in driving distance in 2025, he’s a lengthy and high-class ball striker. He’s started to get that under control over recent outings and with his short game in better shape than last year, he’s a player approaching his best.

Fisk fired four under-par rounds on his way to finishing 13th here last year, where he ranked inside the top 20 in SG: Approach. His victory at the Country Club of Jackson in 2025 bodes well.

As a native of Georgia who recorded his first pro win just down the coast at the Club Car Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour, he can thrive in these familiar conditions.

0.75 pts Joe Highsmith each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 150/1

Although several were considered in that 100/1+ region, it’s 2025 Cognizant Classic champion Joe Highsmith who gets the nod. His game is much sharper this year than it was at the end of the previous season, and as a long hitter who has found form with his irons, he can outplay these huge odds.

Highsmith enjoyed a positive first half of 2025, with his win at PGA National followed by top-25s at THE PLAYERS Championship and Valspar Championship, before he finished 8th in the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. However, he made just four cuts in 16 appearances after that, looking completely lost in most areas.

Whilst he’s hardly set the tour on fire, this campaign has offered more promise. He’s missed just two of his last eight cuts and impressed on his previous start at the RBC Heritage, sitting 14th at the halfway point before slipping to 33rd place by week’s end.

The irons were strong in the first round there and it’s those clubs that have helped him to this greater consistency of late, ranking 34th in SG: Approach across the last two months. He’s also picked up some length this year, ranking 26th among this group in driving distance, and with the short game at its sharpest at Harbour Town, he could be finding form at the perfect time.

Highsmith wasn’t playing well when he debuted here in 2024, but he did hit the ball strongly despite narrowly missing the cut by one shot. An 11th-place finish at the RSM Classic later that year provides us with added optimism and with his winning credentials not in doubt, he appealed more than some less-proven types that were shorter than him in the betting.
