Truist Championship 2026 Betting Tips: Five to stop Rory at Quail Hollow

Suggested at 12/1 for last week’s readers, Cameron Young recorded a second win of a standout season in Florida, producing a commanding display to win the inaugural edition of the Cadillac Championship at Doral.
Now up to a career-best No. 3 in the world, he will again be in action this week, alongside returning Masters champion Rory McIlroy, in our sixth Signature Event of the season: the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina.
With just 10 days to go before the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, this gives players one final chance to sharpen their skills before bidding for major glory in Pennsylvania.
Our golf tipster Jamie Worsley is back with five more each-way picks this week, so let's check out his Truist Championship 2026 Betting Tips here at Betfred Insights...

TOURNAMENT HISTORY
The Truist Championship (formerly the Wachovia Championship and Wells Fargo Championship) was first held in 2003. Quail Hollow has hosted all but three versions, with Eagle Point Golf Club (2017) and Philadelphia Cricket Club (2025) stepping in while it held the PGA Championship, and TPC Potomac (2022) filling the gap when it staged the Presidents Cup.
Among big-name winners such as Vijay Singh (2005), Tiger Woods (2007) and Jason Day (2018), it's Rory McIlroy who has been the tournament's dominant force.
Quail Hollow was the scene of his first PGA Tour victory in 2010, and he later produced a sensational, record-setting performance in 2015, firing 21-under-par for a seven-shot success, before adding further titles in 2021 and 2024.
Last five winners:
- 2025 (Philadelphia Cricket Club)
Winner: Sepp Straka (-16)
Runners-up: Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas (-14)
- 2024 (Quail Hollow)
Winner: Rory McIlroy (-17)
Runner-up: Xander Schauffele (-12)
- 2023 (Quail Hollow)
Winner: Wyndham Clark (-19)
Runner-up: Xander Schauffele (-15)
- 2022 (TPC Potomac)
Winner: Max Homa (-8)
Runners-up: Keegan Bradley, Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young (-6)
- 2021 (Quail Hollow)
Winner: Rory McIlroy (-10)
Runner-up: Abraham Ancer (-9)
Sepp Straka won the fourth PGA Tour trophy of his career at Philadelphia Cricket Club last year. Opening with a seven-under 63, he sat inside the top five all week and capitalised on Shane Lowry's faltering finish to win by two. He is back to defend this week.
THE COURSE
Quail Hollow Club
- Original architect / Year opened: George Cobb / 1961

- Par / Yardage: Par 71 / 7,583 yards
- Hole breakdown:
- 4x par 3s (184-249 yards)
- 11x par 4s (344-530 yards)
- 3x par 5s (546-592 yards)

- Fairways:
- The doglegging fairways are predominantly narrow
- Imposing, strategically placed bunkers tighten the landing areas
- Overseeded rough is generally non-penal at this time of year
- Greens:
- Large (6,578 sq. ft.), elevated bermudagrass greens are overseeded with poa trivialis
- Multi-tiered and littered with run-offs, they have the 10th-lowest GIR percentage on tour
- Due to their speed and severe undulations, they've ranked among the 10 toughest putting challenges in seven of the last eight seasons
- Defences:
- Water is in-play on seven holes, including each of the final three
- Length (third-longest course in 2025)
- Elevation changes put pressure on club selection

Quail Hollow is a demanding championship test, famed for its watery closing stretch – dubbed the 'Green Mile' due to its difficulty.
There are a few opportunities to score, with each of the par 5s gettable, along with a couple of shorter par 4s. However, the par 3s are a challenging collection and there are five par 4s at 480 yards+, including the monstrous 530-yard 9th and 529-yard 16th.
Placing strain on every club in the bag, this exacting test is a great primer leading into next week's PGA Championship.
THE WEATHER
Following wet, stormy weather on Thursday – where we could see 11mm of rain and gusting winds of up to 40mph – the forecast for the rest of the week in North Carolina is much more pleasant. With largely warm and calm conditions from Friday onwards, the players should find a receptive Quail Hollow at its most playable.

Par 5 Scoring
Lastly, birdie chances aren't forthcoming throughout much of the venue, which makes it imperative that the field takes advantage of the scoreable par 5s.
CORRELATING EVENTS (COURSES)
Arnold Palmer Invitational (Bay Hill)
Bay Hill is a demanding, major-like test where the long game is of huge importance. It compares closely to Quail Hollow in all-round difficulty and approaches above 175 yards are commonplace.

Farmers Insurance Open/2025 Genesis Invitational (Torrey Pines – South)
Torrey Pines South is more exposed than this week's course and doesn't possess the same level of undulation. That said, as a lengthy major championship host itself, with narrow fairways and an emphasis on quality with the long irons, these two venues have developed some eye-catching comp form.
Notable correlating form:
- Jason Day: Quail Hollow (1st) / Torrey Pines (1st, 1st)

Memorial Tournament (Muirfield Village)
Muirfield Village is another tough, long course where major contenders typically go well. It features moderate elevation changes, has similarly difficult par 4s, and is particularly challenging on approach, with plenty of shots from 175 yards+.
Notable correlating form:
- Scottie Scheffler: Quail Hollow (1st) / Memorial (1st, 1st)
- Rickie Fowler: Quail Hollow (1st) / Memorial (2nd, 2nd)
- Justin Thomas: Quail Hollow (1st) / Memorial (2nd, 4th)

- Ben Griffin: Quail Hollow (8th) / Memorial (2nd)
The Masters (Augusta National)
Augusta's hilly terrain, length, and elite all-round test means it shares lots of comp form with other major/major-like challenges on the PGA Tour.
Notable correlating form:
- Rory McIlroy: Quail Hollow (1st, 1st, 1st, 1st) / Masters (1st, 1st)
- Scottie Scheffler: Quail Hollow (1st) / Masters (1st, 1st)
- Jason Day: Quail Hollow (1st) / Masters (2nd, 3rd, 5th)

Valspar Championship (Innisbrook – Copperhead Course)
The Copperhead Course is a venue where strong ball strikers thrive. As a tree-lined layout with tight, doglegging fairways, similar-sized greens overseeded with poa trivialis, and requiring strength with the long irons, it's worth checking out for clues this week.
Notable correlating form:
- Justin Thomas: Quail Hollow (1st) / Valspar (2nd, 3rd)
- Patrick Reed: Quail Hollow (2nd) / Valspar (2nd, 2nd)
- Louis Oosthuizen: Quail Hollow (2nd) / Valspar (2nd)

- Gary Woodland: Quail Hollow (4th, 5th) / Valspar (1st)
- Sungjae Im: Quail Hollow (4th, 8th) / Valspar (4th, 4th)
Genesis Invitational (Riviera Country Club)
Lastly, Riviera Country Club is an undulating parkland with frequent changes in elevation. The doglegging fairways are narrow and with substantial approaches from 175 yards+, it acts as a strong comp.
Notable correlating form:
- Max Homa: Quail Hollow (1st) / Genesis (1st, 2nd)

- Luke List: Quail Hollow (6th, 9th) / Genesis (2nd)
THE FIELD
World No. 2 and four-time Quail Hollow winner Rory McIlroy tees it up for the first time since his Masters success. Meanwhile, Cameron Young is back in action following his dominant victory at Doral as the new No. 3, and there are 20 of the top 25 in total.
Sepp Straka defends the title he won at Philadelphia Cricket Club and alongside Rory, there are five further former winners of this event in attendance: Max Homa (2022, 2019), Jason Day (2018), Brian Harman (2017), Rickie Fowler (2012), and Lucas Glover (2011).
The 2017 PGA Championship winner at Quail Hollow, Justin Thomas, is also in the field. In addition, following a fantastic top-10 in his first full event as a PGA Tour professional, Alex Fitzpatrick will be hoping for another strong showing in North Carolina.
SELECTIONS
Market leaders (1/4 5 places): Rory McIlroy 11/2, Cameron Young 17/2, Xander Schauffele 9/1, Matt Fitzpatrick 12/1, Ludvig Aberg 14/1
1.25 pts Chris Gotterup each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 40/1
Chris Gotterup makes his Quail Hollow debut this week but there's no doubt he has a game tailormade for the challenge. The softer conditions should make it that bit more palatable, and if he can bounce back from a rare poor approach display at Doral, I fancy him to contend.
With victories at the Sony Open and Phoenix Open across his first three appearances, Gotterup enjoyed a superb start to the 2026 season. He's sustained positive performances since, picking up four top-25s over his last six, including a 24th-place finish on his first spin around Augusta.
The driver remains his biggest weapon, ranking 10th in SG: OTT and 4th in driving distance. That said, it is the improvement made in approach – sitting 51st this season, as opposed to 105th in 2025 and 163rd in 2024 – that is perhaps the most encouraging development within his game, and as a top-10 par-5 scorer, his numbers stack up well.
Although his comp form is limited, Gotterup does have two top-25s at Torrey Pines and one each at Augusta and Bay Hill. That's enough to think he will be comfortable on a layout where his length is a real asset.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
1.25 pts Kurt Kitayama each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 40/1
After recovering from a slow start to finish 9th at the Cadillac Championship, I’m going to give Kurt Kitayama another try this week. His long game continues to thrive and with some impressive comp form on offer, he can finally crack Quail Hollow.
Kitayama’s results look a tad inconsistent in 2026, but they are strewn with quality. He recorded a standout runner-up finish to Jacob Bridgeman at the Genesis Invitational and also hit the top 20 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
A 51st-place finish at Augusta was disappointing after a bright start, though he’s come out of that in fantastic shape, finishing 8th at the RBC Heritage and 9th at the Cadillac Championship on his last two appearances. His effort at Doral is all the more impressive considering he sat 66th after round one.
Ranking as the fourth-best ball striker in the field last week is no surprise for a player who is 8th in SG: Approach, 9th in GIR and 43rd in SG: OTT for the season. He’s also a handy 20th in driving distance and, excelling with the long irons (sitting 7th in approaches from 175-200 yards and 33rd from 200 yards+) he fits the bill around here.
Kitayama missed the cut on his Quail Hollow debut in 2023 but put up a much improved performance in 2024, finishing 34th. He hit his irons strongly when narrowly missing the cut in last year’s PGA Championship and, having won at Bay Hill and finished 2nd at Riviera, I’m confident he’s capable of a higher finish.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
1 pt Justin Thomas each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 55/1
Justin Thomas arrives in North Carolina after producing his best tee-to-green display of the season at Doral, which helped him to a 23rd-place finish. Winning his first major title here at the 2017 PGA Championship, he’s got a special attachment to the venue and looks value to build on his encouraging performance in Florida.
Following a six-month absence due to a back injury, Thomas understandably looked all at sea on his return at the Arnold Palmer Invitational back in March. However, it didn’t take him long to get back into the swing of things, as he finished 8th at THE PLAYERS Championship, and after some solid results at the Valspar Championship and The Masters, he picked up that second top-25 of the season at the Cadillac Championship.
He ranked 11th in SG: Ball Striking there, driven largely by a superb week off the tee – his second-strongest driving display in the past five years. This is an area in which he’s steadily progressed over recent weeks, and whilst his usually elite iron play isn’t quite back to full strength, he did gain strokes in three of four rounds at the Blue Monster.
Placing 7th on his Quail Hollow debut in 2015, Thomas then went on to record that memorable major victory just two years later. He’s finished 26th or better in four of his five visits since, and as a player who has runner-up finishes at Muirfield Village, Riviera and the Copperhead Course, this is clearly a setup that suits his game.

1 pt Gary Woodland each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 60/1
Producing one of the stories of the season when claiming an emotional victory in Houston, Gary Woodland is my next selection. His Quail Hollow record is sound and with the long game consistently firing over the last two months, he looks value to contend.
It’s been a long road back for Woodland since undergoing brain surgery in 2023 and he spoke openly about his ongoing battle with PTSD earlier in the year. This naturally impacted his results, as he failed to record a single top-60 finish across his first six appearances of 2026.
He found life at the Valspar five starts ago, finishing 14th and followed that with one of the most admirable shows of resilience we’ve seen at the Houston Open, where he ran out an impressive five-stroke winner.
It would’ve been easy for him to take his eye off the ball in the aftermath of that success, but there’s been none of it from the 2019 U.S. Open champion. He’s since finished 33rd at The Masters, 8th at the RBC Heritage, and 38th at the Cadillac Championship – an event in which he was 5th at the halfway point.
The American has driven the ball superbly all year, ranking 13th in SG: OTT and 2nd in driving distance. That said, it’s the enhancements he’s made with the irons that has powered recent results, ranking 13th in this field in SG: Approach over the last two months.
Woodland has teed it up here 13 times, recording six top-25s. Finishes of 4th in 2015 and 5th in 2021 rate as his best efforts, and with top-10s at Muirfield Village, Bay Hill, Torrey Pines and Riviera strengthening his case, there’s every reason to expect a bold challenge.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
1 pt Pierceson Coody each-way (1/5 - 6 places) @ 100/1
With his long game in fine shape, I’m going to take a chance on Pierceson Coody to finish. The youngster is playing the best golf of his career in 2026 and, claiming some impressive results on comp courses earlier in the season, I’m keen to have him on side.
Coody only finished outside the top 20 once over his first five outings this year. His runner-up finish at Torrey Pines stands out especially and I was also encouraged by his 16th-place finish at Riviera. Performances haven’t been quite as strong since, though he was 16th at the RBC Heritage two starts ago and drove it strongly when 38th at Doral last week.
Indeed, it’s with the driver that he excels, ranking 21st in SG: OTT and he’s among the longest, sitting 13th in driving distance. His iron play has been of a high standard as well, ranking 26th in GIR and 32nd in SG: Approach; he thrives with the long irons in particular, placed 28th in approaches over 200 yards.
Coody is a completely different prospect to the player who missed the cut at Quail Hollow on debut in 2023. Those displays at Torrey Pines and Riviera suggest he’s open to a significant upgrade and he’s an appealing price to find that improvement this week.
